SOLLA HEBERT (nee: THORVALDSON) October 2, 1922 April 13, 2007 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our precious mom, amma and great amma on April 13, 2007 at the Selkirk General Hospital. Mom was predeceased by our dad Roland Sr. in 1988 and by her parents, Gudrun and Einar Thorvaldson, her mother and father-in-law, Exlina and Arsene Hebert; sisters, Violet, Sigrun and Irene as well as her niece Karen. She leaves to mourn her sons, Dave (Judy), Roland (Chris) and Ian (Ruth); daughter Ainsley (Barry) as well as grandchildren, Sheryl, Shane, Trevor (Maureen), David Jr., Tara (David) and great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Justin, Alicia, Levenna, Hailey and Shaun; also numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was a fiercely independent woman and was very proud of her Icelandic heritage. She was especially proud to have returned to the work force at the age of 50 and loved her job as a nurse's aid at Tudor House. Although the last three years were difficult, she faced each day with courage, grace and determination. She would not let a terminal illness wound her spirit or her will. She was grateful for her life and her family and said, I've got the best kids in the world! We will all miss her sharp wit, her love and presence in our lives. In keeping with mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a service of remembrance will be held on Thursday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk with her nephew, Pastor Gary Russell officiating. There will be a private family interment in the St. Clement's cemetery. Her honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren. Because mom so loved her chemo nurses, Drs. Demsas and Pat Harris, it would be fitting that in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Chemotherapy Department at the Selkirk General Hospital, Box 5000, Selkirk, MB R1A 2M2. It's the circle of life and it moves us all through despair and hope, through faith and love, till we find our place on the path unwinding. Goda Nott mom, amma and great amma, Elskan! Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
