JEANNE GARAND It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Jeanne Garand, at the age of 87, at the Foyer Valade with her children by her side. She leaves to mourn her children, Paul (Sharon Kaye), Father Gilbert o.s.b., Jean, Eveline (Brian Sheridan), Thérèse (Roland Dion), Raymond and Denis (Sandra Brandt); three sisters, one brother, 14 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous friends. She was predeceased by her husband Henri (1983) and her daughter Lorraine (in 1976). Jeanne was born in La Broquerie, the fourth of nine children. Once her schooling ended she attended Normal School in Winnipeg where she obtained her teaching certificate. She taught in La Broquerie until she met and married Henri Garand in 1944. They settled in Saint-Boniface and raised eight children. Jeanne was devoted to her family and to her faith which was never shaken despite many trying moments. She loved to entertain and all those who passed through her home appreciated her warmth, her generosity and her culinary skills. She always had time for others and never asked for anything in return. She had an amazing memory and never forgot an anniversary or birthday. She instilled in her children and her grandchildren her values, her courage and her determination. Jeanne was the calm in the storm and many were those who sought shelter and comfort in her arms. We already miss you deeply Maman. The family wishes to thank Dr. J. Prenovault and the staff at the Victoria Hospital for their care and kindness and the staff of Foyer Valade for their compassion and devotion in Maman's final days. A prayer service will be held Wednesday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Eglise du Précieux Sang, 200 Kenny Street. A viewing will take place at l'Eglise du Précieux Sang Church, Thursday, April 19 at 1:30 p.m. followed by the mass of the Resurrection at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. If friends so wish, a donation may be made to Development and Peace. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants, Paul (Sharon Kaye), Père Gilbert o.s.b., Jean, Eveline (Brian Sheridan), Thérèse (Roland Dion), Raymond et Denis (Sandra Brandt); ses soeurs, Agnès Laurin (feu Léandre), Sr. Denise Emond s.g.m., Gilberte Garand (feu Roland) et son frère Yves Emond; ses belles-soeurs, Céona, Lucienne et Léonie. Elle sera aussi regrettée par ses petits-enfants, Joël, Michel, Nicole, Chantal, Patrick, Heidi, Jean-Louis, Anne-Marie, Richard, Bronwen, Alexandre, Elise, Roxanne, Julie et son arrière petite-fille Emanuelle, ainsi que France, Daniel et Mike qu'elle tenait à coeur. Elle fut précédée dans le deuil par sal fille Lorraine, ses soeurs, Thérèse Vermette et LouiseBergeron et ses frères Marcien et Noël. Jeanne est née à La Broquerie, la quatrième de neufs enfants de Joseph Emond et Dina Jolicoeur. Après ses études secondaires elle fit son école Normale à Winnipeg et enseigna à l'école Saint-Alexandre à La Broquerie. Peu après, elle rencontra Henri Garand et ils se sont mariés en 1944 à Saint-Boniface où ils ont élevé leur famille. Pour Jeanne, sa famille et sa foi étaient ses priorités. Tous ceux et celles qui ont connu Jeanne, ont apprécié sa générosité son chaleureux accueil et bien sur, son excellente cuisine. Sa porte était toujours ouverte et on pouvait toujours y trouver une partie de 500. Elle nous émerveillait avec sa mémoire infatigable et elle n'oubliait jamais la fête de ses proches! Elle nous a inculqué ses valeurs, sa détermination et son courage que nous léguons à nos enfants. Maman, vous étiez toujours le calme dans la tempête et nous en avons tous profité. Vous nous manquez déjà trop. La famille tient à remercier le personnel de l'hôpital Victoria, le Dr. J Prenovault ainsi que le personnel attentionné du Foyer Valade pour leur empathie et leur dévouement. Les prières pour Jeanne auront lieu en l'église Précieux-Sang le mercredi 18 avril à 19h30. Elle sera exposée le jeudi 19 avril en l'église Précieux-Sang à 13h30 et la messe sera célébrée à 14h.
