HELMUT REMPEL April 12, 1923 April 17, 2007 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Helmut Rempel at the age of 84. Dad was born in Einlage, Ukraine to Johann and Anna Rempel (nee Reimer) where he attended elementary school. In 1943, during the Second World War, he fled to Germany and in 1948, Dad left for Paraguay where he worked on the farms until 1953, when he immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada. He met Mom there in 1959; they were married in 1961, and were blessed with 42 years together. Dad and Mom enjoyed music, reading, gardening and travelling together. They had a very unique relationship, which Dad has missed very much over the past four years since Mom passed. Dad was a very independent man who worked hard his whole life. Dad was always a gentleman. Until recently, he was able to lead an independent life, he attended church regularly, and walked almost every day to Polo Park where he met with friends on Tuesdays for lunch at Zellers, which he enjoyed very much. He enjoyed woodworking at home, and was employed at Dormond Industries for 25 years, until his retirement in 1988. He was predeceased by his wife Agatha, his parents, four brothers, and two sisters. He leaves to mourn son Albert (Joanne and two daughters, Jody and Tracy, and granddaughter Thera), numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends. Dad wanted to extend a special thanks to the Congregation of the Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, for always being friendly and kind to him. He said he has enjoyed being a member since he joined the Church in 1955. Thanks also to brother-in-law Peter Friesen for all the kindness he has shown him over the years. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for the wonderful care, and compassion they showed for Dad during his last days. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, 926 Garfield St., Winnipeg. Viewing will take place on Friday, April 20, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy., as well as prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), 134 Plaza Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9. Arrangements entrusted to: KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson Hwy. 338-0331 www.klassenfuneralhome.com
