VICTORIA (VICKY) FREDERICK (nee CHECKOWICH) January 11, 1920 - April 17, 2007 Peacefully, and surrounded by her family, Vicky passed away on the morning of April 17, 2007. Vicky was predeceased by her husband John Frederick (Fedoruk); parents, Peter and Nellie Checkowich; and brother-in-law Tom Tomlinson. Remaining to cherish Vicky's memory are her son Richard (Heather); grandchildren, Shawna (Chad), Aurora (Heath), Jason (Val), Tamara (Craig); great-grandchildren, Wade, Hunter and Rhianna; sister Frances Tomlinson. Vicky was born in Poland and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1929. They settled and made their home in the Point Douglas neighbourhood. Vicky happily resided in this area; she appreciated the unique ethnicity found within the North End of Winnipeg, and chose to live, contribute and raise her own family in this community. Vicky was employed with Mitchell Fabrics as an accountant/bookkeeper for many years. She was recognized as a hard worker and successful business woman as she flourished in the real estate market. Her strong work ethic endures as family members acknowledge, appreciate and embrace her fortitude. Vicky enjoyed life to the fullest, having many friends, participating in numerous social activities and community functions. Her faith was also an important part of her life, as she contributed her time and talents to support community churches and various events. Vicky devoted herself to her family, as family was considered to be the most important part of her life. We will always cherish the special memories of summers at the cottage, countless days of fun activities, weekend dinners and Gramma's unconditional love and support that touched all of our lives. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service to celebrate Vicky's life will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 23 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. with Fr. Len Ratushniak, C.Ss.R. officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Family Nursing Home, St. Paul's Unit, 165 Aberdeen Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2W 1T9. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to all the staff at St. Paul's Unit, for the compassionate, loving care given to our dear Vicky over the past five years.
