GORDON JOHN NELSON April 9, 1940 - April 17, 2007 The family of Gordon John Nelson, Kepemokii who was a member of the Lynx clan, wish to announce that he has begun his journey to the spirit world to join those who have gone on before him. Gordon was predeceased by his father Edward, mother Rosie, sister Linda, brothers, Ronald and David, his son Eddie, daughter Eleanor and two grandchildren. Gordon leaves to mourn his wife Evelyn, children, Trevor, Bruce, Nancy, Alberta, Robin and stepchildren, Joe and Andrea. He also leaves behind numerous family members and close friends. Gordon was born on the Roseau River First Nation where he lived with his family until he entered Residential School where he spent many years. Gordon overcame many obstacles and challenges in his lifetime and shared the lessons he learned with others. His sharing and supportive nature often made another's journey a little less difficult. He was a humble man who lived by his traditional values and shared his knowledge through his stories. Gordon touched many people's lives sometimes, unknowingly. Gordon loved nature and the outdoors and frequently attended pow-wows and went on camping trips. Gordon was a hard worker and believed in completing a job to the best of his ability. His strong work ethic saw him labour at many different jobs but mainly in the construction field. Gordon was forced into early retirement due to health concerns. He eventually ended his career with the Department of Highways as a Civil Engineer. He continued to be active in life quietly sharing his knowledge with those he came in contact with. Sincere gratitude is expressed to friends and family who offered their support and care during this difficult period. Special thanks to the Dialysis Unit at Health Sciences Centre, the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit and to the WRHA Homecare workers. The wake will be held in the Community Hall at Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation, April 20, 2007. Traditional feast and service will commence the following day, April 21, 2007 at 11:00 in the Community Hall. Interment will follow at the traditional cemetery.
