SHIRLEY JOSEPHINE DALY (nee MARTIN) 1928 - 2007 Peacefully, after a brief illness, our Mom passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2007 with her daughters and grandson at her side at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 79 years. Remaining to forever cherish Shirley's memory are her three daughters, Christine (Jeff), Patrice, Maria (Bill); her angels (grandchildren) Jason, Keith, David, Kyle, Amber, Kristen and AJ; brother and sister-in-law Les and Kae Martin and niece Jackie. She was predeceased by our dad Patrick Daly; and her nephew Randy Martin. Born in Winnipeg in 1928, mom spent her early years growing up on Atlantic Avenue. She was content with her life, having travelled from one end of the country to the other following our dad's navel career. Mom and dad finally settled back in Winnipeg in 1963 to raise their family on Freemont Bay. Mom was an extraordinary person who had a zest for life, she will be remembered for her flirtatious personality and her beautiful voice. Mom's eyes were truly the windows to her soul. All her love, joy, caring and admiration were reflected in her eyes. Mom's passion was for sports, the Blue Jays, Bombers, curling and figure skating. Everyone knew not to disturb mom when her favourite team was playing. She went as far as painting her living room blue and gold one season for the Bombers. Our fondest memories that we will cherish of mom, will be our yearly fishing trips when we were growing up, and her rock collection. The rocks that mom collected across Manitoba followed her from Freemont Bay to La Salle, Manitoba. Each one having a prominent place in her garden (don't dare move them), each one representing a special memory for our mom. We are grateful that mom was alert right to the end. As a family we were able to spend her last few days reminiscing about the old times, our mom proudly correcting her kid brother when he would get a date wrong. Mom loved all her children and angels unconditionally. She was a caring, giving person. We want to thank you mom for all you gave us and all you taught us. You were always there for us, supporting us, and taking care of us, always putting us first. We are so grateful to have been blessed with you as our mother. For those who love our mom we want to say that you should not be sad by her passing. Mom is in a far better place where she will no longer know pain or suffering but instead contentment, peace and happiness. She will be with our dad whom she missed so very much, and for that we are so very grateful. A private memorial service will be held at a later date when our youngest sister is able to attend. We want to thank our employers Brett Young and Coughlin Insurance Brokers. Your compassion and support during this difficult time has been greatly appreciated by our family and us. We would also like to thank the nursing staff at Riverview, and we know our mom would like us to send a special thank you to Betty and Tanis who made mom's last days as comfortable as possible. But most of all we want to send a special thank you to our Uncle Les and Aunt Kae. Your unwavering support during this time made everything so much easier for mom and us. In lieu of flowers our mom would prefer that donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9.
