THOMAS RICHARD PEAKE 1926 - 2007 Peacefully and surrounded by his family, Thomas Richard Peake passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on Thursday, April 19, 2007. Thomas was predeceased by his father Thomas George; mother Herrera Melita and sister Jean (Sy) Auerbach. Tom will be forever missed by his loving wife of 52 years, Flora Jean (Miller), children, Thomas (Julie), Chris (Shannon), Ian (Peggy) and grandchildren, Brian, Nicole, Michelle, Lauren, Paige and Madison; his brothers, Wilfred (Anne) from Trinidad and Ian (Maria) from England, many nieces and nephews and their families. Born October 18, 1926 in Port of Spain, Trinidad, Thomas was the second of four children. Tom immigrated to Canada in the fall of 1944 and graduated in 1950 from McGill University in Montreal with a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical). Tom was proud to have spent his entire professional career working for Shell Canada Limited and retired on May 25, 1984 as Refinery Manager at the St. Boniface Shell Oil Refinery. Tom volunteered on many community based organizations which included being a Director of the St. Boniface Research Foundation; a position that he found very fulfilling and personally rewarding. A man of many interests and talents, Tom found much solace and pleasure retreating to his family cabin at Lake of the Woods where he and his boys enjoyed fishing and the ongoing building projects at the lake. Tom truly loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and close friends. During his retirement years, he spent each winter at his home in Florida with his wife Jean. In respecting Tom's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held, however a private family service has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation; D1003-409 Tache Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2H 2A6. The family would like to express our sincere thanks to doctors and staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their outstanding and compassionate support during his illness. neil bardal inc. 949-2200 www.nbardal.mb.ca

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Mr. Peake lay in the bed next to my father who passed on 5 March. A petroleum engineer myself, we spent many hours discussing refinery design. Tom Peake was a colorful character and often I couldn't contain my laughter. My father, a Shell Agent for 25 years, knew some of the same people Thomas knew. When I would ask if he knew so-and-so, he would reply, "Oh yes, him. Troublemaker! Walked into my refinery like he owned it." It is sad that I did not get to know him better. Tom Peake was an original! My condolences. - Posted by: Allan Puzianowski (Acquaintance) on: Apr 22, 2007
