JOHN MAZUR Peacefully, on April 20, 2007, surrounded by his loved ones, John passed away at the age of 81 years. John will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his son Darrell Mazur; nephew Ron Hucal (Diane); special friend Helen Senkiw; dear friend John Slota, and many other much loved relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Helen Mazur; partner Susan Meissner; parents, Maria and Kostantyn and sister Anne Hucal. John was born on May 20, 1925 in Winnipeg. He resided in Elmwood and then East Kildonan. John attended Lord Selkirk School. He was proud to have served in the Navy at the end of the Second World War. John worked for many years at C.N.C.P. Telecommunications (Portage and Main), retiring at the age of 60. John lived his retirement years to the fullest. Pine Ridge Golf Course was his home away from home. He was a member there since 1958. John treasured the friends and memories he made at Pine Ridge. He also loved to recall the winter trips he spent golfing. John so enjoyed meeting his buddies at Kildonan Place. Tuesday morning breakfasts were very special to him as well. John was a founding member of the Elmwood Hardknocks Curling League and he curled in this league until January of this year. He also enjoyed the times he curled at the Heather Curling Club. We will affectionately remember John sitting behind the glass giving curling advice to his family and friends. You could often find John out throwing rocks and practicing on an empty sheet of ice. In 1990 he was the runner up in the Provincial Masters' Championship. John enjoyed cheering on the Blue Bombers and while in the hospital he made sure that we renewed his tickets for the 2007 season. He also enjoyed attending some Goldeyes' games. John loved to tell jokes. He enjoyed doing puzzles. He would always get up at the crack of dawn to read the Winnipeg Free Press from front to back. The family would like to sincerely thank all the friends and family who visited John in the hospital. He was very appreciative of your love and support. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to the caring, compassionate staff at the Concordia Hospital. We are very grateful to all of you. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, April 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Munroe Avenue at Watt Street, with Rev. Isadore Dziadyk, OSBM presiding. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 26 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Church with Rev. Michael Winn presiding. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jack Grassie, Walter Lichacz, Ken Meissner, Ron Meissner, Philip Montpetit and Zeno Scaletta.
