JOHN ROBERTSON Mr. John Robertson, age 74 years of Huntington Court, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Friday, April 20, 2007. Born in Winnipeg, he was raised in the Elmwood area. He served with the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders, rising to Cadet Pipe Major, and later as Corporal Piper in the Reserve Regiment. He enjoyed his Scottish heritage playing the bagpipes and curling for many years. John spent his entire working life in the insurance industry, moving to Thunder Bay in 1976 with Prudential Assurance, and retiring in 1997 as the Regional Marketing Representative for General Accident. A lifetime member of the Elmwood Curling Club, John was also a member of the Fort William Curling Club. A longtime member of the Fort William Gyro Club, he served as the club's 57th President in 1983 to 1984. He was a member of the Columbia Grill Coffee Club; member of the Royal Canadian Legion; associate member of the Columbus Club where he enjoyed swimming. John enjoyed his occasional trips to Grand Portage and Hinkley, and he also enjoyed watching all sports on television. Ultimately John's family and many friends were his main interests. John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary (Hiebert); children: Lynn Scullion (Lewis) of Harrison Mills, BC (here), Rick Robertson of Pickering (here) and Diane Keigher (Jim) of Thunder Bay; seven grandchildren: Brent, Michael and Brian Scullion, Ellie Robertson, John, Mathew and Erin Keigher; three great-grandchildren: Hannah, Kaden and Jaren Scullion; brother Leslie (May) Robertson of Winnipeg. Many nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Predeceased by his parents, John and Maggie Robertson. Funeral services for the late John Robertson will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. in the Westfort Chapel, 420 Gore Street West, Thunder Bay, ON, with Rev. Ed Long officiating. Services complete in the chapel with final interment of cremated remains in Sunset Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will take place after 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the Westfort Chapel.
