HENDRINA (DRINA) MARIA NELISSEN Peacefully, with family at her side, on Sunday, April 22, 2007 at the Portage District General Hospital, Hendrina Drina Maria Nelissen of Portage la Prairie, beloved wife of Louis Nelissen, passed away at the age of 76 years. Prayers will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held in the Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Father Michael Wollbaum officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery at a later date. Drina was born on September 15, 1930 daughter of Louis and Wilhelmina Schoofs at Bladel, Holland where she was raised and received her education. She was employed as a housekeeper until 1953 when she immigrated to Canada with her family. They settled in St. Eustache where she was employed with the Hood family on the sugar beet farm. During the winter months she was employed in Winnipeg. In 1956 she married Louis Nelissen and they moved to Portage where they raised their family of four children. In 1975 she began to work at the Lions Prairie Manor as a nurses aide. She worked there for 15 years retiring in 1990. Drina was a member of the St. Hyacinth Roman Catholic Church and the Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League. Drina enjoyed the great outdoors doing gardening, growing flowers and loved feeding the birds. As a hobby she enjoyed doing needle point and cross-stitching making beautiful pictures that she gave to her family. She enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage, with her husband and friends. Her special times were spent with her children and grandchildren. Predeceased by her sister Katie (Herman) Fritschy; brother John Schoofs; sister-in-law Jissiele Schoofs, she leaves to mourn her passing her husband Louis; son Ferdi (Laureen) of Portage, grandchildren, Devin and Shaye; son Ludo, grandchildren, Jennifer (Andy) , Michael, Julie; son Mark (Margaret), grandchildren, Karrah, Mitchell and Nicole; her daughter Rose (Keith) Park, grandchildren, Melissa, Kathleen and Carey Van Aert; four great-grandchildren, Dallas, Xavier, Zachary Fust, and Jenessa Nelissen. Also surviving are two brothers, Bill, Louis (Anne); five sisters, Lena Schoofs, Tony (Peter) Vosters, Corrie (Hubert) Verwymeren all of Winnipeg, Ann (Ted) Fleerackers of Engleheart Ontario, Terry (Bill) Jansen and sister-in-law Truis Schoofs, all of Winnipeg, and many nieces and nephews.
