Norma Jane was born in Winnipeg on February 12, 1919 where she attended school, culminating with a B.A. from United College in 1939. During the war years, she worked for the Y.M.C.A. War Services. After the war, she and Charlie were married, living briefly in Toronto before moving to Glenboro in 1947. Having lived her entire life in the city, Norma Jane immediately became immersed in the needs of the community she loved. She worked tirelessly for her church and the youth of the community. Her church activities included Sunday School teacher and superintendent, member of W.M.S. and U.C.W. and C.G.I.T. leader for 25 years. She served as school trustee on the Glenboro Consolidated Board and Tiger Hills School Division for 29 years. Norma Jane and Charlie loved to travel, touring throughout North America by car. They also journeyed to England and Scotland several times to visit relatives and friends, and spent a few happy winter vacations in Hawaii and Florida. Norma Jane's favourite place in the world however was watching the sunrise at Elderslie, the family cottage on Lake Winnipeg. Norma Jane lived her life with zest and enthusiasm to the very end.
