Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELSIE LIEBRECHT Sadly, we announce that at the age of 86 years, Elsie passed away peacefully at the Victoria Hospital, April 23, 2007. Born May 9, 1920, at Yorkton, Saskatchewan, she was the only child of Conrad and Mary Wiedeman. She married Ted Liebrecht on October 27, 1939, at Stornoway, Saskatchewan. They farmed in the Stornoway area until they retired and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in October, 1973. While living in Stornoway, she was very involved in many community activities including The Trinity Lutheran Church Ladies Guild, The Canadian Red Cross, Cancer drives and various charitable organizations. Her hobbies included crafts, playing softball, curling and was noted for her dandelion and chokecherry wines. Her generosity was appreciated by many: Facilitating wedding or baby showers; Organizing festive community get-togethers like noodle-making bees; And opening her home to look after two foster children for a brief time. On retirement, Elsie and Ted enjoyed many fishing trips with family within Manitoba creating many memories and laughs. She enjoyed hosting and sharing many meals with relatives and friends, often followed by being a worthy opponent in a Canasta or Rummy card game. It was after surviving her husband Ted in 1998, that she became a resident at the Poseiden Care Centre Nursing Home where she continued to make many friends while enjoying their care and activities. She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Cliff (Mabel) of Winnipeg, Calvin of British Columbia, grandchildren, Greg (Tracy) of London, Ontario, Dena of Okotoks, Alberta, Shannan (Lawrence Vereschagin) of Edmonton, Alberta, Bryna (Jeff Goszulak) of Edmonton, Alberta, and great-grandchildren, Dylan, Carter and Elyse Vereschagin, of Edmonton, Alberta, sister-in-law Agnes Rogan (Adolph) of Regina, Saskatchewan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Ted of 59 years in 1998, and her son Byron, 1972. She was also predeceased by her mother Mary, father Conrad, stepmother Martha, stepbrother Ernie and stepsister Freda. The family is deeply appreciative for the doctors' and nursing staff's excellent care and compassion at the Victoria Hospital. We also have great gratitude for the kind-heartedness and care shown to Elsie by the collective staff at Poseiden Care Centre during her long term stay. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Heimo Bachmeyer officiating. Interment to follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Elsie's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association (200 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg), Mental Health Association - Winnipeg Region (432 Ellice Avenue, Winnipeg) or a charity of your choice.
