Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDITH CLARA SHANNON Edith Clara passed quickly on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 5:55 p.m. at Cedar View Lodge. She was predeceased by her mother Katherine Eleanor Armstrong who passed away January 29, 1986, sister Angus Kathleen Jickling who passed away August 4, 1978 and her brother Robert Shannon was killed in action as a RCAF aircrew man on March 31 1944. She is survived by her niece Pamela Ann Langevin and nephew Robert James Lindsey Jickling. Edith was never married however had a wonderful love for her family and life in general. She worked in Winnipeg at Eaton's as a Computer operator. She later moved to Vancouver in 1942 and there she worked for the Canadian Pacific Railroad doing office work. She retired in 1974 to a life of exploring the world. Edith had a lot of influence in my life, as I learned by watching her live her's, she taught me how to live for today. Do the things that you really want to do and explore the wonderful places and events that this life has to offer. She did not worry too much about the future and did all the things that made her happy. Edith travelled extensively around the world. To me she was the most independent person I have ever known. She showed me not to be afraid to do things and be who I truly am. Edith was always having fun and could always have a chuckle about something that was going on around her. She could also take care of herself well; her confidence in her independence was a beautiful role model for me. Her home was filled with all the little treasures I had given her throughout the years. It is sad that she is gone however I am glad she did not have to suffer. Lots of love Aunt Edith , your loving niece Pamela. Service may take place at a later date. Edith's mother (Kate Shannon) was my paternal grandmother's sister. My grandmother's maiden name was Armstrong. The Armstrong family were true pioneers, farming/living in the community of La Riviere, MB. They had (8) daughters. Kate Shannon married an American and they had 3 children (Edith, Bob, Kathleen). Kate's husband abandoned the family when the children were very young (1920s) leaving a single mother with huge responsibility. My Grandmother (Edith) married George Johnston in 1912 and they farmed north of Brandon very close to the now defunct community of Carnegie, MB. They had (3) boys (George, Donald, Stewart). Kate Shannon supported her family teaching in Winnipeg. During the summer they would travel to the Johnston farm and the cousins would become close. When WWII broke out my father (Don) and Bob Shannon joined the RCAF and served overseas. When circumstances allowed, they socialized, mainly in London. Bob was an Air Gunner, flying as air crew in Halifax bombers. His a/c was shot down and the entire crew killed in March 1944. They are all buried in Germany. A lake in Northern Manitoba is named after Bob Shannon, (Shannon Lake). - Posted by: George Johnston (Paternal grandmother's (nee Armstrong) niece. ) on: Jun 05, 2016
