GERALD ELLIS LAPOINTE We sorrowfully announce the sudden passing of Gerald (Jerry, Froggy ) on April 9, 2007 in Ashcroft, BC. Dad was predeceased by beloved wife Lorraine (1989), father John (1985) and mother Maybelle (1976). He is survived by daughters, Lynne Schiewe (Brad) of McKinleyville, California and Diane Lapointe of Winnipeg; brother Jack (Marj) of Ashcroft, BC; ex-wife Gweneth Lori Paintin; stepsons, Rick (Suzanne), Jason; grandchildren, Alex (Janet), Ben (Casey); stepgrandchildren, Christina and Malcolm; great-granddaughter Haley; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Dad was born January 31, 1931 in Winnipeg. He attended Greenway, General Wolfe and Daniel McIntyre schools and was a good West-ender along with very dear old friends, Jim and Irene. He was active in football and boxing as a young man and volunteered to serve in the Korean War. On October 10, 1953, he married Lorraine ( in love at first glance ). Exactly one year later the twins were born. As a younger husband and father, Dad was a free spirit, trying many different ventures to provide for his family. Dad was talented in sketching, painting, woodworking, carpentry, sculpture, glassworks, etc. but he was always very modest about his gifts. He was fascinated by all things Asian culture, history and food! Dad's greatest wealth were the many dear friendships he made along his life's journey. Numerous have called expressing condolences, support and assistance. We thank them for loving remembrances. In later years, Dad suffered failing health but he was able to enjoy golf, getting together with Eatonions , reading and cooking his famous Boston Baked Beans. Recently, Dad moved to Ashcroft to be nearer Jack and his family, to enjoy the benefits of a small town and good golf weather. We are saddened he did not have more time there but are comforted he was surrounded by loving family. We are also comforted Dad passed as he would have wanted - with dignity and peacefully in his sleep. Dad always said, If I were to become an invalid, put me on an ice flow and send me to sea. Cremation has taken place in Ashcroft, in care of Thompson Valley Funeral Home. In October 2007, Dad will make a final journey to Winnipeg with dear daughter Lynne. An October 2007 remembrance gathering will be planned for family and friends. Details at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations to Heart and Stroke or CancerCare Manitoba appreciated. Safe travels dear voyager
