ALEXANDER (ALEX) SIMPSON BARRON It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father and grandfather on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at the Grace Hospital at the age of 70 years. After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Alex leaves to celebrate his life, his loving wife Darlene; their daughter Darcie, husband Harvey and children Alexis and Evan; son Dwain, wife Laurie and their children, Taylor and Keven; and son Dana. Alex was one of five children with brothers, Bill, Bob (Sophie), Jim (Sheena) and his sister Nan, and was predeceased by brothers, Bill and Bob. Alex was known for his tremendous sense of humour and strong family and community values. He enjoyed his many years volunteering in various capacities at the Sturgeon Creek Community Club and watching his children participate in summer and winter sports throughout the years. Alex loved woodworking and created many loving memories for children and grandchildren. He had many long and lasting friendships, including those he met while working for over 40 years at the Winnipeg Free Press. He cherished his many close friends, the legion lunches and numerous dinner parties with friends and family. He loved to travel and was very thankful to be able to make their trip to Victoria in March between his treatments. In compliance with Alex's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A gathering to celebrate Alex's life will be held on Friday, May 4 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in the Sturgeon Creek Community Club, 210 Rita Street. Special thanks Drs. Schellenberg, Milner and Harris along with the doctors and nurses from the Grace Hospital for their part in Alex's care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alex's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9 or to The Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2L 1X3.
