MARY ANN WASNIE (nee HUSAK) It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Ann Wasnie on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at the age of 93 years. She was predeceased by husband Louis in 1996; parents, Andrew and Melania Husak; one infant sister; sister Stella and two brothers, Fred and Eddie. Mary will be greatly missed by her son Robert of Winnipeg; granddaughters, Barbara (Tom), great-grandson Joshua; granddaughters, Brenda, Donna (Lon), great-granddaughter Amanda, all of Calgary; grandson Robert (Rachelle) and great-grandson Caidyn of Winnipeg. Mary was born, the eldest, on January 1, 1914 in Winnipeg. When she was four years of age, her family moved to Sioux Lookout, ON. It was there that she met her future husband of 64 years, Louis. Mary lived in Sioux Lookout until moving back to Winnipeg in 1958. While in Sioux she worked as a salesperson for Consumers Trading and the Hudson's Bay store. In Winnipeg, she spent 19 wonderful years working for Stephanchew's Church Goods Store and she used to say, I loved every minute of it . It was through her work at Stephanchew's that she met and became friends with many members of Winnipeg's religious community. Mary was a longstanding member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Transcona. She was deeply religious and a lifetime member of the Catholic Women's League dating back to her days in Sioux. She enjoyed many activities, one of which was crocheting blankets and doll clothes, which she donated to the church bazaars, as well as to many other hospital and charitable organizations. This is just one of the special memories that we are sure many people have of Mary. Mary enjoyed travelling the world and went on several adventures with either of her lifelong friends, Mary Schuh or Theresa Faulkner (Donnelly). She often made friends in her travels, many of which she kept in touch with for life. Her remaining family would like those who knew Mary to not mourn her passing, but rather celebrate her long life and cherish the many memories with which we are left. Mary would rather see us smile than shed a tear; it's the kind of loving person she was. The family would like to thank Mary and Pete Jonker, Jack and Jeanette Foot, Rose Yaworski and Park Manor Personal Care Home and 2nd floor nursing staff. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday, May 3 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 505 Brewster Street with Rev. Fr. Jan Spyrka as celebrant. Interment to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery on Osborne Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's memory to Ronald McDonald House or CancerCare Manitoba. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
