THELMA DELZIE CUMMING (nee BLAKEMORE) On April 27, 2007, Thelma lost her valiant battle with cancer and passed away at home. Predeceased by her husband Donald, she will be remembered fondly by her two sons, Bob (Anne) of Victoria and Ian of Calgary. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, Rob, Kevin and Stephanie, Trevor, Alex and Morgan. Thelma was born on July 4, 1924 in Lye, England, the second of two daughters of Cecil and Annie Blakemore. Thelma came to Canada as a war bride and started her western migration living in Toronto, London and St. Catharines in Ontario: Winnipeg, Moose Jaw, Regina and Calgary in the prairies and finally landing in Victoria. She had a love of sports, participating in swimming, curling, lawn bowling, golf and five-pin bowling over her life. She was active in the community during her younger years, volunteering with block parents and the local tourist bureau. She had been involved with both Eastern Star and the Ladies Optimist clubs and was always there to offer a helping hand. A memorial service will be held at Saanich Peninsula Presbyterian Church in Sidney, BC on Friday, May 4 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, Mom requested that donations be made to either the Victoria S.P.C.A. 3150 Napier Lane, Victoria, BC V8T 4V5 or the BC Cancer Agency, 2410 Lee Avenue, Victoria, BC V8R 6V5.
