AILEEN WESTWOOD (nee WARREN) With the same grace and dignity as she lived every day of her life, our dear mother and grandmother, Aileen Westwood, passed on to be with her cherished husband Fred, in the early morning of April 29, 2007. Aileen was born in Rapid City, MB. She spent her early years in Saskatchewan, graduating from Earl Grey High School. Her lifelong love of music was nurtured as she played the organ at the local United Church and went on to receive her ATCM diploma in piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music. She continued her love for learning by obtaining her Teachers Certificate. After teaching at a one-room school house for grades one to eight for four years, she moved to Toronto to begin her studies to obtain her Dental Nurse designation. After graduation, she moved to Winnipeg, where she practiced for several years and married her husband Fred. Their 60 year marriage began with a most difficult four year separation as Fred served his country in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps as a Captain during the Second World War. After the war, Aileen and Fred made their home in Morden, MB, where Aileen began a new role as wife and mother to two children Jim and Marjorie and subsequently, her three grand-children Paul, Joanne and Ainsley. Aileen's service to her community continued through her many years of active involvement in the Morden United Church and Easter Star, where amongst many of her talents, her contribution as pianist and organist is still fondly remembered. Aileen and Fred moved to Winnipeg in 1996, where they became members of two very special communities Sturgeon Creek United Church and the Fairmont Woods. Aileen is lovingly remembered by her children, Jim Westwood of Cranbook, BC; Marjorie and husband Ken Grower of Winnipeg; her grandchildren, Paul, Joanne and Ainsley; her nieces, nephews and their families, and her sister-in-law Sheila. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Fred S. Westwood (2002) and one sister Betty L'Africain. A celebration of Aileen's life will be held at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, Winnipeg, on Friday, May 4, 11:00 a.m. Ash interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Morden. In lieu of flowers, Aileen's family asks that donations be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation (Hospice), the CNIB or the Morden and District Foundation. The Westwood and Grower family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of the Grace Hospital Hospice and to her many friends in Morden, Winnipeg, and those at her home at Fairmont Woods who have provided both their support and their prayers.
