ALEXANDER (ALEX) COLIN RODIER August 24, 1988 - April 27, 2007 With the heartfelt grief that a sudden and untimely death creates, we announce the passing of our son Alex. While travelling home from Regina, SK, he was involved in a single car accident on April 27, 2007 outside of Portage la Prairie. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Alex was a vibrant member of the Transcona community. He first attended Dugald School and graduated from College Pierre Elliot Trudeau in June 2006, where he benefited from the guidance and support of his teachers, principal and classmates. He was known for his youthful exuberance, inquisitive and innovative nature, and his school developed his love for learning and thirst for knowledge. Sports were a major highlight in Alex's life. With all the enthusiasm and optimism of youth, Alex played hockey for South Transcona, the AA Saints and his high school hockey team. Playing first in net, then deciding to play defense where he remained. He played his formative years out of the East End arena developing many good friends along the way. He earned his bronze star in swimming, and played lacrosse with the Griffins for a number of years. But it was his love of the game that kept him in football. Through the coaching and development of the many volunteers of the Transcona Football club, his teammates on his successive teams, and his own unique character, he knew success through numerous city championships; as well as the joy of being one of the guys in the locker room . Confronting adversity, dedication to a cause, commitment, pride in accomplishment, confidence and determination were reinforced by the Nationals players and coaches throughout the years. This culminated in his being part of the Provincial Under 17 team that won a gold medal in 2005. In April 2006, he was offered a scholarship to play football with the University of Regina football club which he gratefully accepted. This opportunity provided Alex the basis for his pursuit of a career in genetics. It was where he met his soul mate Chantel. Her parents, Darcy and Donna Deck and brother Jordan, opened their home and hearts to him when he left his college residence. Our Christian traditions were further reinforced by Chantel and her family. Alex was coming home to advance his learning in genetics and to play for the University of Manitoba Bisons Football Team when the tragic accident occurred. Cherishing the family memories are his parents, Chuck and Cathy; elder brother Aaron and younger sister Nicole; grandparents, Marie and Adrien Pete Rodier; his soul mate Chantel Deck and her family; as well as his uncles, aunts and cousins: Don and Lynne Williams (children, Andrew, Donna and Joshua), Carol Beazley (children, Adam (Ashley), Tyler and Joel), Bev and Bob McIntyre (children, Christine (Regan), Melissa and Sara), Pam and Pat Fowler (children, Bobbi-Jo, Beverly, Patrick and Matthew), Susan Williams and her dogs. Alex was predeceased by his grandparents, Bill and Phyllis Williams. Prayers with viewing will take place on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Road. Funeral Mass celebrating his life and committing his soul to God our Father will be held on Friday, May 4, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Boniface Cathedral, 190 avenue de la Cathedrale (St. Boniface) with Reverend Fr. Fred Olds presiding. A private family interment will follow in Green Acres Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aaron Rodier, Jack Walker, Daniel Vallee, Don Williams, Bob McIntyre and Jordan Deck; honourary pallbearers will be Adam Beazley, Tyler Beazley, Joel Beazley, Josh Williams, Andrew Williams, Stephan St. Germain, and Thomas Ferguson.
