Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALIDA VAN LEUSDEN (DE JONG) July 4, 1910 April 29, 2007 Alida Van Leusden (De Jong) with peace and tranquility on Sunday, April 29, 2007 in Ida's 96th year. Though predeceased by an adoring and dedicated husband, Anton (Tom), Alida's legacy will continue and last through her children, Harry and Tom (Maria); grandchildren, Tammy, Patti, Donna, Raymond, Candace, Kristina and Lisa, and her great-grandchildren, Brendon, Dustin, Easton, Darby, Easton and Danica. Alida was also predeceased by brothers, Harry, John, Nicolas, Fred, and sister Rene. Surviving Alida is her brother-in-law and special friend, Frank Van Leusden (Phyllis) of British Columbia. Ida was born in Winnipeg on July 4, 1910 and after marrying Tom they settled in Bisset, Manitoba. They later relocated to Winnipeg where she began working part time for Zellers on Henderson Highway. Being the outgoing and generous person she was, it was not long before she had many loyal friends and an active social life. Playing cards, pot luck suppers and social events shared with friends were high points that she never tired of. Her sons will remember fondly the summers camping at Toniata, where they would find adventure in each new day. She joined Arthur Murray Dance Studio, a club for ballroom dancing and took enormous pride in achieving countless awards in competitions throughout Canada and the United States. When she had finished with the many beautiful competition gowns, she would give them to her granddaughters to play dress up, watching them dance in them and trying to show them the proper steps resulting in much laughter. Ida was an amazing cook and delighted in the family gatherings for Sunday meals, and especially birthdays, Christmas and other special occasions. She was a faithful member of John Black United Church for many years and seldom missed a Sunday service. She was also an avid curler much of her life and spent many happy days and evenings at the St. Vital Curling Club and later the Rossmere Curling Club. Alida's fondest times were those spent in the presence of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She truly loved them and delighted in watching them grow. She bragged to family and friends endlessly of their accomplishments and surrounded herself with photos of each of them. Family was the most important thing in her life and she always had time, energy and endless love for each member. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Alida's funeral service will be held on Friday, May 4 at 11:00 a.m. in the Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Boulevard at Dieppe Road, with The Rev. Michael Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. The family would like to send a special thank you to all the staff at West Park Manor for the wonderful care provided to Alida while she resided there. We, the family, will miss Alida and will carry with us many fond memories as will the many others who were given the blessing of knowing and sharing life with her. wel te rusten moeder Alida's arrangements have been entrusted to Manitoba's largest Original Family Owned Funeral Service Provider: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 4665
