ERNEST ARNOLD (ERNIE) KOLESAR June 28, 1913 - April 24, 2007 Peacefully, in his sleep, at Tudor House Personal Care Home after a long period of declining health. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Noreen; sons, Bob (Karen), Ron (Pat), Randy (Joanne), and grandchildren, Kim (Chris), Sharlene (Brian) , and Ted. Ernie lived a full productive, and engaged life virtually until the last couple of years. He had a long and active retirement at Pinawa Lake enjoying fishing, gardening, and his true joy tinkering'. Since 1997 he and Mom lived in East Selkirk. He was a self-taught, versatile man with many talents and was always repairing something whether it be an item mechanical, electrical, plumbing in nature and so on. Born in Neepawa, Manitoba, Ernie's early years were formed by the loss of his father when he was four and the loss of his oldest brother in the Great War. He was a renowned softball pitcher sought after to play in tournaments. He was part of the generation that rode the rails looking for work. He enlisted in the Second World War and also lost a second brother in the War. He was a master baker. After working in a variety of bakeries, large and small, he and Noreen owned and operated successful bakeries, first in Powerview (Bake-Rite), and until 1976 in Beausejour (Ye Olde Home). He took great pride in his baking. Many will remember and many continue to comment to the present day on the excellent quality baking and customer service they received. Dad was the last surviving member and the youngest of six brothers and two sisters. The family thanks the excellent care, and compassion of home care prior to Dad's move from his home to Tudor, and the subsequent excellent nursing, medical, and staff personnel at Tudor who treated Dad with care and attention, dignity and respect. Special thanks to Drs. Demsas and Lindenschmidt. Many thanks to Jerry, Doreen, and Orie Zalusky for all their help while Mom and Dad were in their home. Cremation has taken place. A private family ceremony and interment was held on April 30, 2007 at Chapel Lawn Cemetery. A memorial celebration is planned. Further information and details will follow in the near future.
