JAMES BRYSON (DOC) MURRAY James Bryson (Doc) Murray passed away peacefully at Concordia Hospital April 30, 2007 at the age of 81 years. He leaves with loving memories his wife, Audrey; children, Diane (Bob), Karen (Rob - Jeremy, Chelsea, Dorian), David (Chris - Ilia, Sean), Jeanne (Roger - Marcus, Jamie, Roman and Monica, Nicole); sister Betty and niece Suzanne. Doc touched many people's hearts throughout his life. Before becoming a physician, he served as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force and helped to finance his education by working as a sleeping car conductor for C.P. Rail. After earning his medical degree, he practiced in Carberry and Vancouver before returning to Winnipeg and founding the Springfield Heights Medical Group where he remained for 20 years. He followed private practice by working at the Workers Compensation Board for another nine years before retiring. During his career, he was on the Executive and eventually became President of the General Practitioners' Association and served as Chairman of the Special Committee on General Practice for the Canadian Medical Association. He was an active staff member at Concordia Hospital where he was later appointed to Honorary Staff and served on the Executive of Medical Staff and as President. He was also a member and President of the Board of Directors Concordia Hospital Foundation. Bryson's contributions went beyond those professional. He was physician and Manitoba Governor for the Youth Bowling Council and team physician for the EK Lions and for the Winnipeg Jets. His enjoyment of golf led him to be a member at Rossmere where he served on the Board of Directors and as President. The Christmas Cheer Board welcomed him as a volunteer, as did the Citizens' Advisory Committee for Stony Mountain Penitentiary. As a talented, self-taught pianist, he shared his love of music and of life with all those close to him. Above all else, he cherished his family, and they him. A Memorial service and reception will be held Friday, May 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christmas Cheer Board, the Salvation Army or charity of choice. The family would like to extend their thanks to Drs. Smith, Watson and Dormer and all of the caring staff on 3W at Concordia Hospital. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
