GIOVANNI TORREGROSSA October 3, 1923 - May 2, 2007 Peacefully on May 2, 2007 at Riverview Health Center with his family by his side the Lord took Giovanni at age 83, to be reunited with the love of his life Antonietta. Papa will be sadly missed by his family; daughters, Giovanna (Joe), Rosa (Walter); and his grandchildren, Rosa (Garrett), Giovanni, Amanda, Adriana and Alia. He is survived by his loving sister Rita of Palermo, Sicily; many nephews and nieces in New York and Sicily and loving brother in law Franco (Teresina) of British Columbia. He was predeceased by his wife Antonietta in 2000, his mother Giovanna, father Antonino, brothers and sisters, Petro, Nicola, Rosalia and Giovanna. Giovanni was born on October 3, 1923 in Palermo, Sicily. He was a strong, hardworking, courageous man with a generous heart. At a young age he joined the military to serve in the Second World War, enduring time as a prisoner of war. He later resided in Belgium as a mineworker, before immigrating to Canada in 1952. Giovanni was a man with simple tastes for winemaking and gardening on his off time from working with the City of Winnipeg. He enjoyed a full and happy life with his wife, children, grandchildren and many, many loving friends. The family would like to express our sincere thanks to the staff at Riverview Health Center for all their care and support given. We would also like to express our thanks to all friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the heart and stroke foundation. Viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 7, 2007 at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave, with mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. lnterment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
