Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES BYRON ENGLISH James Byron English of Minnedosa passed away April 27, 2007 at Minnedosa Personal Care Home at the age of 89 years. James was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He was born in Minnedosa where he lived all his life. As a teenager he worked on building the second nine of the Wasagaming golf course. In 1939 he joined the CPR, prior to enlisting with the Canadian army upon the outbreak of the Second World War. He served the war years overseas where he met and married Frances his wife of 62 years. Returning from overseas he rejoined the CPR where he worked until retirement. He also enjoyed his work as a dental technician for several local dentists, a trade learned in the army. In his early years he enjoyed bird hunting, golf and curling and took up painting in retirement until his eyesight failed him in his 80's. He was predeceased by parents, James Ivan English and Omah Bertha English (nee Brown); brother Erven Everett English. Surviving are his wife Frances Mary English (nee Blackman); a sister-in-law in Winnipeg and numerous in-laws in England; two sons, James Leslie English and Gordon William English; one daughter Patricia Rose English; and four grandchildren. The funeral service was held on May 1, 2007 at the Minnedosa Funeral Services Chapel with Reverend Shawn Ankenmann officiating and the Legion honour guard in attendance. Interment followed in the Legion quarter of the Minnedosa Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Brad, Curtis, Graeme and Bryan English, and fellow railroaders Calvin Jacobson and Peter Stevenson. Honourary Pallbearers were everyone in attendance. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to Minnedosa Personal Care Home or Minnedosa United Church Building Fund. Minnedosa Funeral Service was in care of arrangements.
