MACRINA WARD Macrina Ward, aged 89 years, passed away on April 30, 2007 at Fred Douglas Lodge. Macrina Margaret Murphy was born and raised on a farm near Bathurst, NB, where she played and worked with her three brothers and two sisters and their devoted parents. During the Second World War, she joined the RCAF, serving as a pararigger at No. 6 Repair Depot, Trenton, ON and No. 4 Skoudouc, NB. After her discharge, she went in training at a unique hospital in Toronto, specializing in the care of the newborn. She practiced her profession in Toronto and made many lifelong friends. She met her husband Roland Bus Ward there and they married two years later. Their son Murray, was born the next year, and four years later, they moved to Winnipeg where they have lived ever since. Macrina also raised three daughters, Brenda, Gloria, and Ellie. For years she was an active member of St. Peter's R.C. Church, serving as catechist and lector. Almost all of her family still live in Winnipeg: Murray and wife Laura; Brenda and children, Tara (now in Alberta), Tricia, and Sean; Gloria Meyer, husband Brian, and children, James and Jodie; and Ellie's sons, Matthew and Ryan, so in her declining years she received lots of tender loving care. She was a frequent visitor at nursing homes; she loved the aged, and for years she was a daily visitor at Central Park Lodge. Macrina was predeceased by her husband in 1989 and her daughter Ellie in 2000. Special thanks to the staff of Fred Douglas Lodge, who cared for Macrina over the past four years. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 7 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 748 Keewatin St. with Fr. Art Seaman presiding. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Macrina's memory to St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
