ALICE NORLEV KRAHN (nee NIELSEN) 1942 - 2007 Early Thursday morning on May 3, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer, Alice passed away peacefully at home in Morden with her husband by her side. She is now resting in the shadow of the Almighty (Psalm 91:1-2). Alice was born in Hjorring, Denmark on May 28, 1942. She was the proudest Dane you ever met. Her family immigrated to Kenora, ON when she was nine years old. She married Ernie on May 2, 1964 and settled in Morden, MB where Ernie worked as a Chartered Accountant. Mom was a gifted homemaker and a wonderful wife and mother. Her family did not lack for anything. She loved her family dearly and poured her boundless love and energy into us all. After the kids grew up, Mom decided to tackle something new. She opened a ladies clothing store, Dimensions in 1985 and ran it successfully for many years. The arrival of six grandchildren was a special blessing Alice loved being a Nanny . All the stages of her grandchildren's lives were cherished, honoured and remembered. She once said, My grandchildren are twice my children. Some of Alice's fondest times were spent at the cottage on Lake of the Woods. She thought of the cottage Little Denmark as her little piece of heaven. She loved the leisurely coffee breaks on the deck with her parents and brother; the boisterous afternoon games of Old Maid with the grandchildren and the evening paddleboat rides with Daisy, (golden retriever) at her side. Mom was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer in 1997. She handled this challenge with a determination and strength that surprised us. Alice got through the difficult surgeries and chemotherapy treatments by turning to God daily and relying on Him for strength. Alice will be lovingly remembered by her husband Ernie of Morden; two daughters, Karla and Randall Warkentin of Morden, Karen Krahn-Castelli and Victor Castelli; one son Kent and Maggie Krahn of Taipai; grandchildren, Marie, David, Andrew Warkentin, Gianfranco, Maximilian, Giuseppe Castelli and her brother Carsten and Lurline Neilsen. She was predeceased by her parents, Harding and Ingrid Neilsen. Funeral service will be held at Westside Community Church, 831 Thornhill St., Morden on Sunday, May 6, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Morris Vincent officiating. We are grateful to the many people who walked alongside mom on the final steps of her life journey. Alice received exceptional care from Dr. Bob Menzies, nurse, Cheryl Penner, the staff at BTHC cancer ward and home care aide, Deanna Wiebe. A special thank you to each one of you for your gentle care. Alice's faith community, Christ Lutheran Church, was a place of refuge for her many years. We are also grateful for the outpouring of support Alice received over the past months from family and friends the meals and flowers were greatly appreciated. She knew she was loved and will be missed by everyone who knew her. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Boundary Trails Health Centre Foundation, Box 2000, Winkler, MB R6W 1H8. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteous Judge will award to me on that day-and not only to me but to all those who have longed for His appearing.
