WERNER ALVIN MEGER December 3, 1931 May 4, 2007 Werner Meger has begun his new journey to be with the Lord. He will be sadly missed by his wife Lena, children, Doug (Alvera), Tanis (Sandy), Roger (Christine), Kim (Brenda), Michele, 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Born in Watrus, SK on December 3, 1931, Werner married his sweetheart Lena on November 1, 1952 and made Selkirk his home to raise his family. They were married for 54 years and his love for Lena was kind, gentle, caring and loving. Werner was employed with the Red Lake Mines from 1952 1956. Afterwards, Werner and Lena owned and operated their restaurant Eric's Snack Bar from 1956 - 1960 and Rose Marie Catering 1960 2005. The endless hours of work and organizational expertise that developed will always be cherished and admired. No job was too big and a challenge was always waiting to be accomplished. Dad always made time for his family and loved the family occasions. He is our hero and our mentor. He always found time for coffee, conversation, advice and gave his love unconditionally. Those special times will never be forgotten and will always be in our hearts. Love you dad. His advice and wit with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren was always from the heart. He said what he had to say and right to the point always with a bit of humour. He always wanted the best for his family and tried his best to make this happen. Papa is our special angel. Throughout his life he looked forward to his fishing trips to British Columbia and Lac Du Bonnet with his sons as well as Sunday coffee with his daughters. He was an avid hunter and loved his annual hunting trips with his buddy Ken. He coached Senior A Baseball, lifetime member of the Selkirk Kiwanis Club, member of the Selkirk Curling Club, loved watching sports, especially NHL hockey. Most of all he loved life. He gave unconditionally. He was proud of his home, his family and his garden and could often be found feeding the birds or chasing squirrels. Werner also leaves to mourn seven brothers: William (Ann), Elmer (Lorraine), Paul (Betty), Walter (Phyllis), Gordon (Alice), Ernie (Pat), and Edward (Nancy) and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Werner will be sadly missed by his many relatives and friends that call and stop in for visits. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Steve Banera who was always there for us in times of need and support. Werner was predeceased by his mother Eda in 1985, father Albert in 1972, twin sister Adeline Helen in 1932, and sister-in-law Betty in 2004. Prayers will be said on Monday, May 7, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Selkirk, Pastor Stan Richards officiating. Viewing at the church one hour prior to the service. Cremation to follow. Pallbearers will include his sons, Doug, Roger, Kim, his brothers, Gordon, Paul and Walter. Honourary pallbearers will include Steve Banera, brothers, William, Elmer, Ernest, Edward, and all friends and relatives which he truly cherished. Special thanks to Doctors Claudio Rigatto, Mauro Vereilli, Sean Armstrong from the St. Boniface Hospital, Greg Pinniger, Stonewall Medical and the staff of the dialysis units at St. Boniface Hospital for their devoted compassionate care. Donations in Werner's memory may be sent to the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation, Room D1003, 409 Tache Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. If we could have one lifetime wish and one dream come true, We would pray to God with all of our hearts, just to be with you A thousand words won't bring you back, we know because we've tried. And neither will a million tears, we know because we've cried. If love could have saved you, you never would have died, We hope you know we love you and will miss you everyday. You are in our hearts forever, and always to stay. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
