Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRONALD JOSEPH OSTROWSKI March 20, 1970 May 3, 2007 Courageously with Christ, surrounded by his family, Ron passed away peacefully at home. Left to cherish his memory is his son Jaden, of three years; wife and soulmate Michele; brother Jason (Kimberly), and loving parents, Grace and Joseph. He is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces in Winnipeg, MB, his extended family in Poland and maternal grandma, Anastasia Slawinska. He will also be missed by his many friends, neighbours, and co-workers in Calgary and Winnipeg. Ronald was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a BSc. in electrical engineering. Ron and Michele were married in Winnipeg. He started his career in Winnipeg, which led to relocating to Calgary. He had a successful career that grew into his own consulting company. All those who knew Ron, admired his patience, integrity, honesty, loyalty, his willingness to listen and his selfless ways. He was the best kind of friend you could have. Ron also had a great love of music and was an accomplished guitar player. Ron's life may have been short but he lived it to the fullest right to the end. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Words do no justice to the loss we feel. In his struggle with cancer he showed us what the true meaning of courage is. He never dwelled or complained and was always more concerned with how others were dealing with his illness than himself. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue at 11:00 a.m. in Winnipeg. Father Maciej Pajak OMI will be the main celebrant with Father Slawek OMI concelebrating. Interment to follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery, 4387 Main Street, Winnipeg. A celebration of Ron's life is to follow in Calgary for those not able to attend the funeral mass. Date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, Ron's wishes are for donations to be made to The Alberta Cancer Foundation (1-866-412-4222 toll free). Please specify the program you wish to support is The Patient Financial Assistance for Albertans facing cancer. Donations may also be made to the Maintenance Fund of Holy Ghost Parish. Eternal life grant him, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044

It is with great sadness and genuine compassion for his family, that after a quick google search online to look for Ron and what he was up to, I discover that Ron has passed away. We were classmates and music mates in University, and much like all relationships you forge in University, once we had completed our studies, we had parted ways to forge the path our lives would take. I headed east, towards Toronto and he headed west to Calgary. The last time I had spoken to him, he had searched me out and found me back around the time I had moved to Ottawa....I feel awful that I can't remember exactly when.......2002? 2001? 1999? 2003? What I do remember is when I picked up the phone, he first called me by my nickname, "Fonky", in reference to my playing style when I played rhythm guitar. I immediately recognized his voice, and so we reconnected. He told me about his wedding, where and what he was doing, and how he wanted to pick up and play guitar more, like he used to when we were in university. We finally ended up exchanging info, and he asked me to send him a copy of the CD "Hardware", with Stevie Salas, Bootsy Collins and Buddy Miles which, he had fallen in love with back in university when I first played it for him. He couldn't find it in any store or online, and so he asked me to burn a copy for him and send it to him. I did that, and that was the last we had spoke. It's funny, going through life, experiencing it and allowing it to flow through you and affect you without fear. The Ron I remember was like that - and what I have discovered is, many are not. And, as usual, those memories that affected you in the past, inevitably get triggered in the present. I will always think of Ron whenever Hardware's "I Got a Feelin'" comes up on my media player, or car stereo.......or even when I see a great guitar player. I will always remember the glee we shared hearing someone talented. I will also remember the positive vibe and mutual respect and support we shared for each other, because when we had graduated, jobs for engineers in Winnipeg were hard to come by, and we would all exchange tips and info, to help each other out. It is with GREAT sadness, and GREAT heaviness of heart, that I write on this chilly sunny day in Montreal, where I now live and work. I will truly miss Ron, and regret not having reached out to him sooner. I am certain that as great of a friend that he was to me, he was an even greater husband, father, and fighter to the end. Peace to you my friend. Dennis Sarlis - Posted by: Dennis Sarlis (Classmate and friend from University) on: Apr 28, 2012
