WILLIAM FREDERICK MANZA 1930 - 2007 It is with great sadness to announce the passing of my father Fred Manza on May 5, 2007 at the Riverview Health Centre with his family by his side. After a short but difficult battle with cancer, I would sincerely like to thank all my family and his friends for their support and dignity at this very difficult time. He will be greatly missed by his only daughter Lisa, and his two grandchildren, Aaron and Anthony. Also left to mourn are his brother Peter Manza of Pittsburg; his sisters, Eda Spuzak, Helen Porco and Jean Merkel along with numerous nieces and nephews who cherished him like their own father. Fred had numerous friends in Transcona where he lived his entire life but will be dearly missed by his companion Joyce Manza who helped him along with his struggle with cancer. Born and raised in Transcona, and son of Joseph and Maria Manza, Fred began his career at the Transcona CN Shops at the young age of 13. He left there as he was drafted to the Canadian Armed Forces to serve his country in the Korean War. Returning to Transcona in 1953, he started his journey again in the railway. In the mid 1960s, dad changed careers as a City of Winnipeg Bus Operator where he later retired after 29 years of service in 1995. Dad loved the outdoors and was meticulous about his home and yard. He spent many years enjoying planting his garden and flowers around his home. We enjoyed many years of family trips as he was an avid camper and travelled all over Manitoba, Canada and the United States. In his retirement years, Fred travelled to Texas for many winters in his truck and 5th wheel. He loved the open road as he found lots of peace and tranquility after working very hard all his life. Dad was proud of his Italian heritage and loved to gather with his family for our Sunday spagetti dinners which was truly a family tradition. He was our family entertainment with his quick sarcastic wit that everyone will remember him for. I will miss you now that you're gone from me, As you stuck by my side, Even when you didn't show it, You were always there to guide. You struggled with your sickness, As sudden as it progressed, I sat right there next to you, And that was God's hardest test. God also told me, That to lose my only Dad, I would also have to struggle, So now not to be so sad. So now lay your head down, As it is time for you to rest, As hard as this is for me, I know it's for the best. I will love and miss you always - Love Lisa, Anthony and Aaron A viewing to be held on Friday, May 11 between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. for family only, followed by a service Saturday, May 12 at 11:00 a.m. by invitation only, at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
