Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS BLAIR MCGONIGAL (1963 - 2007) Suddenly, on May 1, 2007, in Eagle Ridge Hospital in New Westminster, BC Tom McGonigal, age 44, beloved partner of Laurel Sandvik of New Westminster, BC and much loved son of Marilyn McGonigal of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his father Garth McGonigal in 2003. Tom will be lovingly remembered by his partner Laurel, and his mother Marilyn; two brothers, Dan (Deborah) and Larry (Sandra); his nephew Jordan; nieces, Micaela, Kelsi, Megan and Hannah, and his many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues. Tom grew up in Winnipeg and attended River Heights Jr. High and Kelvin High School. Between 1988 and 1991 Tom served three years with the 2nd Royal Canadian Regiment. He then attended the University of Manitoba where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Tom joined Investors Group and became a Certified Financial Planner. He continued his education completing several courses including the Canadian Securities Course. Tom relocated to British Columbia in 2000. He continued his career as an investment counsellor with Carevest Capital Inc. A natural and gifted athlete, Tom golfed, played basketball, football, and hockey. He also enjoyed squash, racquetball, water polo, water skiing, downhill skiing with family and friends. Tom was interested in wildlife conservation and volunteered in provincial and federal election campaigns. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed a good discussion about current events and issues. Tom's kindness, generosity, and nurturing nature were continually demonstrated by his commitment to family and friends throughout his lifetime. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. During his two weeks in hospital, after a debilitating stroke, Tom showed his usual determination and steadfast courage in the face of adversity while retaining his sense of humour and working toward recovery. A memorial service will be held for Tom Friday, May 11, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Anglican Church, 2700 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6.
