MARIE EMMA STUEBING Softly and tenderly in her 93rd year, and surrounded by her family at her bedside, Marie passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2007 at Victoria General Hospital. Beloved wife of Ken, her loving husband of 66 years, Marie was a partner and helpmate in all facets of his life. As a stay at home mom , Marie was a loving and caring mother to sons, Bill (Linda) and Bob (Eileen), and daughter Jane. She was an extremely proud and doting grandmother to Emmy, Ken, Rob, and Sarah. As a sincere and caring friend, who was there for anyone who needed her, Marie was loved by all who knew her. Marie's Christian faith was an integral part of how she lived her life and for the past 50 years, she was an active member of the Fort Garry United Church community. Marie taught Sunday School for many years, was a long-time member of the United Church Women, coordinated many church activities, and with Ken co-founded the first Couples Club. Marie was honoured to have her contributions recognized by the Church and to become the first woman to be given the opportunity to serve as an Elder. Marie was also a woman of service. She was a life member of the St. Agnes Guild, which benefits the Children's Hospital, a member of the Inner Wheel, and for many years served as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. Marie was also an avid and talented lifelong knitter who linked her personal passion with her devotion to charity, producing many fine articles for the St. Agnes Guild gift shop and their Fall Teas, and at the same time organizing a host of other knitters who became a virtual cottage industry in support of the Children's Hospital. Marie enjoyed many friends, in her community, her church and the Guild. A particular source of pleasure was the front nine at Niakwa Golf and Country Club and the many dear and lifelong friends she made there, who often gathered around her pool after a good game of golf. She prided herself in the fact that she rarely lost a ball on the golf course, usually adding with a characteristic grin, I don't hit them far enough to lose them . Most recently her love of friends and games was satisfied at the bridge table at Sterling House. A memorial service and celebration of Marie's life will be held at Fort Garry United Church on Thursday, May 10 at 1:30 p.m., following a private family interment. In lieu of flowers, Marie wished that her friends consider a donation to the Building Fund of Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road, Winnipeg, MB R3T 3L8. Mom lived a long life, a worthy life, and a life fulfilled. Well done my good and faithful servant. -Matt. 25:21
