GLENNA EDITH NUTTALL (nee ROSS) Glenna, surrounded by her loving family, passed away peacefully, at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital, on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at the age of 82. She is survived by Frederick, her beloved husband of 63 years; daughters, Sandy (Gord), Heather (Bob), Robert (Allysse), Rodney (Marianne); grandchildren, Jennifer, Tricia, Gordie, Shannon, Ryan, Kristin, Erin, Lee and Paige; and great-grandchildren, Dylan, Cameron and Ella; as well as her sisters, Jean, Eileen and Joan and their families. Glenna was born and educated in Halifax, NS. She served at the highly secretive main coding office of the Canadian Navy located at the Halifax Dock Yards during the Second World War. There, she met the love of her life, Fred, in 1943, and despite the strict security, Mom was able to keep track of Dad's well being in the North Atlantic, within the Arctic Circle and during the Normandy invasion, where he actively served as a Petty Officer aboard the destroyer, HMSC Iroquois. Mom and Dad were married in Halifax in 1944. After the war, they took residence in Winnipeg where they began their family. Mom could paint a house or mend the sails, all the while managing the demands of her two daughters, twin sons and a husband with a thriving electrical contracting and service business. As a Maritimer she loved the water and along with Fred, they introduced their family to the lifetime sports of sailing on the Lake of the Woods and downhill skiing all over North America. Mom also took great pleasure and pride in her home and her gardening. Her garden arrangements were spectacular and most notably she was recognized by the Kenora Horticultural Society for her rock garden in Clear Water Bay. Mom demonstrated great courage and dignity while battling the ravages of Alzheimer's and advanced osteoporosis but ultimately succumbed from the complications of a fractured hip and pneumonia that she was not able to overcome. Although Glenna did not have the opportunity, we feel she would especially have thanked Fred, her lifetime partner and the love of her life, for his unwavering love, his neverending patience and his understanding throughout these most recent difficult years. She would also have thanked her children and their spouses for their care, love and support. Mom would have thanked the doctors and nurses at The Lake of the Woods District Hospital for their compassionate care, Com-Care and the staff and volunteers of Kenora's Camp Day Away. Dear Mom, Despite the challenges you faced so bravely, we are grateful that you loved and encouraged all of us in our lives. You will always be in our thoughts and forever in the hearts of your family. A celebration of Glenna's life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 15, at Brown Funeral Home Cremation Centre in Kenora. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Glenna's memory would be sincerely appreciated.
