MARILYNNE CASSIDY No words can express the sorrow we feel in announcing the sudden passing of our beloved mother and Nana on May 8, 2007. Marilynne Dorothy Cassidy (nee Mitchell) passed away at her home after a short second battle with cancer. Marilynne will be missed and cherished forever by her daughters, Debbie (Lorenzo) Cerasani and Lori (Robert) Semchyshyn and her five adored grandchildren who were equally crazy about her: Matthew, Samantha, Jeremy, Thomas and Selina. She also leaves to mourn her passing her lifetime friend Judith Glasgow and her close family members: sister Elaine Rous; sisters-in-law, Flora Mitchell and Shirley (Don) Church; nieces and nephews, Michele O'Dowd; Cal (Charlotte) Rous; Cliff (Tami), Grant (Kathy), and Donna Mitchell; Darlene (Jim) Papaioannou; Sandra (George), Kirk (Sue) Knight and Keri (Ryan) Yackel, as well as many great nieces and nephews and numerous special friends. She was predeceased by her husband Harold (Sam), her parents, Clarice and Clifford and her brothers, Bruce and Ronald. Marilynne's greatest joy was being with her family, particularly at Christmas and family birthdays. There was nothing that gave her more joy than being with her family. She was a natural storyteller and loved jokes. Her keen sense of humour stayed with her throughout her entire life. Marilynne had a passion for making things. Every year, she would make each of her grandchildren Halloween costumes. Her real showcase was the Wizard of Oz costumes that she made for every family member two years ago. She could create the impossible i.e. the flying monkey. Her knitting and crocheting were equally impressive; she made close to 100 ponchos in the last few years. Marilynne worked as a legal secretary and paralegal for most of her life, spending most of her career working with J. Allan MacDonald and George Ullyatt. She really enjoyed her work and developed many special friendships with co-workers. Many a young lawyer benefited from her expertise in the legal field. Marilynne spent many summers driving to Miramichi, New Brunswick in the motor home to visit all her in-laws. Marilynne loved gardening and frequently was sporting a summer case of poison ivy. She had a love for animals and every stray seemed to find a way to her door. A special thank you to all the staff at Cancer Care especially to Drs. Leylek and Kerr, Kathy, Debbie, Michelle and Candace. You gave her hope and peace, and she thought the world of all of you. MOTHER You can only have one Mother, loving, kind and true, No other friend in all the world will be so true to you. For all her love and kindness She asked nothing in return. If all the world deserted us To our Mother we could turn. For those of you who have a mother Treasure her with care, For you will never know her value Til you see that she's not there. To hear her voice To see her smile To sit and talk with her a while To be together in the same old way Would be our dearest wish today. Mom, rest in Peace. We love you. A memorial service and celebration of Marilynne's life will be held at Churchill Park United Church at 525 Beresford Avenue on Saturday, May 12 at 2:00 p.m. A private family interment will follow at a later date.
