RUTH JOYCE VAN WALLEGHEM (LOCHT)

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH JOYCE VAN WALLEGHEM (nee LOCHT) Ruth, surrounded by her loving family and sisters, passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre on Saturday, May 12, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her beloved husband Tom; son Dale; daughter Sherri, husband Lyle Voss, grandchildren, Brandi and Travis. Sisters, Jean (Garry) Kuhn and Doreen (Herb) Borkowsky; in-laws, Rose and John Schatkowsky and Frank Van Walleghem, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Alex and Bertha Locht, brother Ernie and sister Marge Lange. Ruth was born and educated in Oldenburg, MB. Ruth and Tom were married in Whitemouth in 1953 and started their life together in Winnipeg. In 1969, Tom and Ruth, along with Dale and Sherri, started their northern adventure in Thompson. In 1972 they moved to Leaf Rapids where they started a family business. Mom enjoyed many outdoor activities like skiing, fishing, boating or just picking blueberries just out the back door. In 1983 they moved back to Winnipeg where they continued their family business. Mom embraced life, loved dining and dancing and watching Goldeyes and other baseball games. No matter where mom lived she was very active in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Mom loved watching her grandchildren's activities even it it was a day at the zoo, Tinkertown or church activities. She loved to play cards and enjoyed her weekly cribbage games with friends and family. Mom enjoyed our family gatherings/reunions and was looking forward to attending the Leaf Rapids Town reunion being held this summer. The family wishes to thank her sisters, Jean and Doreen for their constant love and support. The family also wishes to extend their thanks to Betty and the many other caregivers at Riverview Health Centre, 3E Palliative Care Unit, Pastor Tom Lurvey for weekly visits, prayers and support. At mom's request cremation, along with a private family service, has taken place. A celebration of Mom's life will be held Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Lurvey officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mom's passion - the Oldenburg Cemetery or Riverview Health Centre, Palliative Care Program.
