MARY-ELLEN ROLLESTON Mary-Ellen Grace Hughes Rolleston passed away peacefully with husband and mother by her side at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, MB on Friday, May 11, 2007. A memorial service honoring Mary-Ellen will be held on Wednesday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Pinawa Lutheran Church, 25 Massey Avenue, Pinawa, MB with Rev. Rob Murray officiating. Another service will be held in Port Sydney, ON at a later date. Mary-Ellen was born on July 15, 1948 in Huntsville, ON. She was unfortunately stricken with Polio at the age of 5 and spent a year in the Thistletown Hospital in Toronto, ON-this never held Mary-Ellen back. She graduated from Markham District High School with honors and went on to work for the department of Indian Affairs in Toronto. During this period, she met her husband Larry Rolleston and they lived two years in Toronto before she was transferred to the Ontario Correctional Services in Hamilton, ON. After 17 years in Hamilton, Larry was offered a job in Pinawa, MB where Mary-Ellen and Larry resided until the time of her passing. Mary-Ellen's love of nature and dedication to the conservation of wild life, was of great importance to her. Her love of books was reflected by the support she gave to her local library and she was a loyal member of the local Hospital Auxiliary. Mary-Ellen's cheerful nature and ready wit will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Mary-Ellen was always concerned with others' health and always put her own to the back of the line. Her passing has left a great void in our lives. Mary-Ellen was predeceased by her father, John J. Hughes of Port Sydney. Left to mourn her passing are her husband Larry Rolleston, her brother Jim Hughes of Bancroft, ON, sisters Judith Michell and Susan McIntosh, her mother Joan Coleman of Bracebridge, as well as may nieces, nephews and friends. In loving memory of Mary-Ellen, donations may be made to Nature Conservancy of Canada, Doctors Without Borders or the Pinawa Library.
