Christina is survived by her daughter Beverley (Lawrence) Kristalovich and Karen and Lisa (Daniel); daughter Sylvia (Wilf) Groinus and Trevor (Lisa), Kyle, Michael, Paige and Tracey (Wayne), Brayden, Jarvis and Cheryl (Dallas); daughter Elsie (Stu) McDermid and Lyall (fiancée Brenda) and Christy (Roberto), Isabella and Riley; daughter Sonia (Lou) Chastko and Jason and Amanda (Kelly); daughter Joan Rochelle and Taralee (Derek), Emma and Tanya (fiancée Darren) and Troy; son Harvey (Jan) and Ryan and Melissa; son Victor (Val) and Michael and Chad (Teresa), Caleb, Logan; daughter Eleanor (Ian) Grant and Lindsay and Robyn; and son Barry (Jackie) and Bradley and Bryson. She is also survived by her brother Steve (Jean), sisters, Lena Balabuck, Mary Rochelle, Sophie Nechwediuk, Emily (Harold) Lane, and sisters-in-law, Matilda and Mary Melcosky. Christina was predeceased by Michael (1998), her husband of 57 years; her parents, John and Petronella; sister Annie (Frank Chastko); brothers, Gus (Lena Lukianchuk), Peter, William, Paul, and granddaughter Janine. Christina was born in the R.M. of Harrison. She attended Montcalm School for six years. After the passing of her father in 1934, she stayed home to help with the work on the farm. During the harvest of 1936, Christina met Michael Rochelle. Four years later, on October 6, 1940, they were married in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Elphinstone. They farmed in the Crawford Park area until 1952. Then they moved to the Sandy Lake area where they continued to farm. In 1975, Michael and Christina moved to a new home in Sandy Lake where for many years they did custodial work at the school next door. In 2004, Christina moved to Woodland Courts in Selkirk where she enjoyed the company of many new friends. Preparing wonderful meals and helping her children with their homework was a great joy to her. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting. Christina enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Christina also loved to travel and had an opportunity to visit many places in Canada and the USA. She enjoyed visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family extends their thanks to the staff and residents of Woodland Courts who made Christina's new home a pleasant one. They appreciate the care and compassion Dr. Simcoff, Dr. Racette and the nursing staff of Selkirk General Hospital provided to Christina and her family. Pallbearers are Christina's grandsons: Lyall McDermid, Trevor Groinus, Jason Chastko, Ryan, Michael and Chad Rochelle, and Troy Chwaluk. Bradley Rochelle is the crossbearer. Prayers will be held at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Elphinstone on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Parish. Rae's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
