Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN (MOE) OWEN MORRICE 22 September, 1920 11 May, 2007 After a lengthy illness, it is with deep regret that we announce the passing of John Owen Morrice, Moe as he was known to most, at Deer Lodge Centre, Tower 7 on Friday, May 11, 2007 at the age of 86 years. Remaining to forever cherish Moe's memory are his loving daughter Maureen; grand-daughter Hilary; cousin Lynne Samuel (Chris); great friend Cal Shermerhorn; the surviving members of the Gimli Gut Bucket Band, Olly Karkkainen and Ken Porter; as well as all his canine visitors . most notably Delta, Brodie and little Sparky. Moe was predeceased by his wife Babs (1991) and his son Marty (1995). Born and raised in Winnipeg, Moe enlisted in the R.C.A.F. as a young man. He served overseas during the Second World War and remained in the Air Force employed as an Aviation Technician. His military postings took him to Canadian destinations; Marville, France (441 Squadron) and into the Middle East as a U.N. Peace Keeper. He eventually retired in Winnipeg holding the rank of a Master Warrant Officer Class II. After retirement , he worked selling RV trailers for a few years before really retiring!! He also spent time serving on the Board of Directors of the Astra Credit Union for a few years. He loved all animals, fishing, tools, cars, coins, Half Moon hotdogs, John's horses, hockey (watching and playing as a young man), shopping, cooking but most of all he loved people. People gravitated to him, and he to them. His smile and endless sense of humour were magnetic. A graveside service has been held in Brookside Memorial Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Deer Lodge Centre in the Worship Centre, 2109 Portage Avenue, on Thursday, May 17 at 12:30 p.m. with Beth Sawatsky officiating. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held in the solarium of Deer Lodge Centre. Special thanks to Cal Shermerhorn for his endless visits; to the entire staff of Tower 7 for their caring, empathy and support; Home Care staff who looked after my Dad prior to his moving into DLC; all the canine visitors; and to all my friends who gave me their support without question.
