She is survived by her daughters, Janice Harper (Peter) of Sidney, BC, Kathryn Hatcher (David) of Winnipeg, MB, and Margaret King (Michael) of Winnipeg, MB; her grandson John Harper (Tammy) and her great-granddaughter Alexandra of Winnipeg, MB; sisters, Joyce Reierson (Ray) of Edmonton and Muriel Cowan Kitchener, ON, as well as her nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son-in-law Benne Harper; daughter Elaine Musgrove and brother-in-law Robert (Bob) Cowan. Laura will be missed by her family and many friends both in Sidney, BC where she and Len spent the last 19 years and Manitoba. Laura was born and grew up on a farm in Lilyfield, MB, and retained her love of the prairies throughout her life. She attended Daniel MacIntyre School in Winnipeg and then worked for Air Canada, before devoting her time to raising her family. Laura had fond memories of their time spent in Saskatoon at the University of Saskatchewan, and their home in Winnipeg, until Len's retirement from the faculty of Agriculture at the University of Manitoba. Home then became Sanford, MB with a year spent at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture in Nigeria, where new friendships were forged on an international scale. Upon returning to Canada they retired once again to Sidney, BC. She will be remembered for her numerous interests, love of bridge, plants and flowers and involvement in many activities connected with Len's career at the University of Manitoba and at the IITA in Nigeria. Laura was a fabulous hostess and cook for family, friends and university functions. The family would like to thank the staff at The Lodge at Broadmead in Victoria, for the compassion, care and support given to our mother and our family. A memorial gathering to celebrate Laura's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 19 at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Dr., Victoria.
