ANN WACH Peacefully in her sleep, Ann Wach passed away on May 15, 2007 at Holy Family Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her parents, Ahafia and George Wach; sisters, Mary, Nell and Elsie; and brothers, Harry and Peter. Ann is survived by her sister Kay; sisters-in-law, Kathryn (London, ON) and Anne (Winnipeg), and a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews. Ann was a lifelong resident of East Kildonan until 2005 when she entered Holy Family Nursing Home. During her childhood she attended Lord Wolseley School and in June 1934, she graduated from Dominion Business College. Ann was employed by Agriculture Canada and worked for the Canadian Grain Commission for 40 years. During her busy career she found time for several lifelong pursuits. She was a very competitive bowler and played in a number of 5 pin bowling leagues in Winnipeg. Ann also was a longtime member of the Transcona Golf Club, participating in club and city leagues that resulted in her having a very low handicap. She also enjoyed curling, square dancing, knitting, crocheting, gardening and baking. She enjoyed being a season ticket holder for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and would often stay to the end of a game even in those frigid November games. In addition to her sporting activities, Ann enjoyed travelling throughout the world visiting Far East countries, Australia, New Zealand, European countries, especially Ukraine and Mexico. Upon returning from her travels, Aunty Ann would delight her nieces and nephews with mementos she had brought from abroad. As a lifelong member of Holy Eucharist Parish, Ann was an integral voice in the church choir. Along with her sisters, Nell and Kay, the trio sang in many choirs and would often volunteer their services as Christmas carolers for the parish. Ann, along with her sister, Nell, was a member of the Ukrainian Millennium Choir that travelled to Rome in 1988 to perform for the Pope. The family would like to thank all the staff at Holy Family Nursing Home, especially the St. Francis unit, for all the love and compassion shown to her during her time spent there. A special thank you to pastoral care workers. Parastas / prayers will be sung at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 22 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Munroe Avenue and Watt Street. Funeral service will be celebrated Wednesday, May 23 at 10:00 a.m. also at the church with Father Michael Winn officiating. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. Ann's great nephews and nieces will be the pallbearers. If friends so desire, memorial donations in Ann's name may be made to a charity of your choice. Rest in Peace. Vichnaya Pamyat. Eternal Memory.
