MICHAEL HOPWOOD Michael Mars Hopwood passed away in Vancouver on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at the age of 62 years. Besides his loving wife Margaret Short and children, Warren and Claire, Michael will be dearly missed by his mother Alix and his brothers, Jack, Andrew (Syl), Terrence (Paula) and sister-in-law Lorraine Short. Michael was predeceased by his father Jack Hopwood. Michael was born on December 11, 1944 in Winnipeg, MB and graduated from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. After University Michael left Winnipeg with $25.00 in his pocket to prove there was not a country in the world that he couldn't survive in. He hitchhiked from Cairo to Capetown, was a sheepherder in New Zealand, taught English in Japan, sold air conditioning units in Saigon and worked in the engine room on a freighter from Vancouver to the South Pacific. Michael started his own real estate business in Winnipeg (Crabb and Hopwood) where he remained until he moved to Vancouver with his wife Margaret in 1980 and changed careers to the telecommunications industries. He was a devoted father who took tremendous pleasure in his children's academic and extra-curricular accomplishments. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humour, positive attitude and love of life, as well as his fondness for his fourlegged friend Roxy. He will always be our hero. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 22 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hollyburn Funeral Home, 1807 Marine Drive, West Vancouver. A memorial service will be held at St Francis in The Wood, 4773 South Picadilly Rd. on Wednesday, May 23, 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations to the C.H.I.L.D. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I met Michael in Tokyo in 1968 when get was teaching English there. He was a great guy, and we were best of friends. I visited Michael in Winnipeg in 1973, by making it a point to go there when I was visiting the United States. He was in Real Estate then. I caught up with him again in Vancouver in 1986 for a brief visit. I am truly sorry to hear of Michael's passing, just now, today when I saw this notice. Wishing his wife Margaret and dear children my most sincere condolences. Philip Evans - Posted by: Philip Evans (Great friend) on: Mar 31, 2014
