Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIA RIY Peacefully on Friday, May 18, 2007, Maria passed away at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre at the age of 84. Mom was born in Winnipeg on September 15, 1922 to Alexander and Rosalie Kulik. Predeceased by her son Richard and her husband Stephen. To cherish her memory she leaves daughters, Gloria Spencer and Candace Hamulka (Michael). Grandchildren, Daniel, Mathew (Kirsten), and Stacey. Great-grand- daughter Genevieve. Brother Steve Kulik (Mona) of Montreal, and sister Gloria Walthers (Bill) of Toronto. Cousins, Peter, Mike and Joe Kulik of Winnipeg. Mom was employed in the Public Service for 27 years. She enjoyed working and always strived for better positions. She took shorthand, typing and was one of the first Telex Operators. Her last position was as a pay and benefits clerk for Revenue Canada. Mom was an energetic resourceful lady. She faced many challenges in her life and was able to overcome obstacles by her faith in God and willingness to create a better life for her family. She loved sports and was proud watching her grandsons play soccer, hockey, baseball and football. She spent many hours watching the Blue Jays, the Goldeyes and the Bombers, cheering them on and coaching when needed. She played sports as a teen and enjoyed basketball, volleyball and track and field. As the years crept up, she walked at a quick pace up and down Henderson Highway. Even after hip surgery, she would toss her walker aside and stroll down the halls of Fred Douglas Heritage House during walking group, much to the amazement of her wonderful aides. She loved music and dancing and enjoyed going to Stacey's dance recitals and attending her singing concerts and was so proud to hear her granddaughter in jazz ensembles. Mom herself sang in the United Church choirs for many years. She attended Robertson Memorial, Harrow United and John Black United churches. She was also a member of Good Companions choir and did many appearances at various locations of Care Homes. Mom was a giving person. She cared for her mother in her home for many years while working full time. She volunteered at Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home, playing cards and doing crafts which she so enjoyed. She also gave many hours to Meals on Wheels, delivering meals to many. The family wishes to thank the compassionate staff at Kildonan Personal Care Center and Dr. Rick Hamm. Memorial service is being held on Wednesday May 23, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at John Black Memorial United Church, 898 Henderson Hwy. If friends wish, a donation can be made to Moms favorite charities, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the M.S. Society of Winnipeg. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
