DIEDRICH E. DYCK 1914 - 2007 On Saturday, May 19, 2007 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, Diedrich E. Dyck aged 93 years of Winkler formerly of Chortitz, MB passed away peacefully after a brief stay in the palliative care unit. Diedrich was born in Burwalde at the family home on April 25, 1914. As a young boy, the family moved a few times before settling in 1924 at the family farm northeast of Chortitz. He married Tina Thiessen in 1946 and they continued to farm and raise their children on the family farm until their retirement in 1978 when they moved to Winkler. Diedrich always found time to help out in the community serving on the Chortitz School Board, the Stanley agricultural Society, The Winkler Friendship Centre and volunteering for Meals-on-Wheels. Dad was a warmhearted, generous, non-judgmental and family oriented person. He enjoyed reading, playing chess and cribbage, baseball, horses as well as traveling. He had a keen wit and mind. He enjoyed reminiscing and telling stories from his younger days and especially enjoyed rides win the countryside in the last few years. A long time member of the Winkler EMM Church, he was especially comforted by Pastor Wilbert Friesen's visits during his hospital stay. He will be greatly missed by his children; four daughters, Sharon and Norman Schmidt, Esther and Ray Cloutier, Betty Wayborn, Marlene and Gysbert Crielaard; five sons, Ken and Kim, John, Lawrence and Wanda, Albert and Patty, Ron and Jackie; 13 grandchildren; Jennifer, Trish, Kenny, Joel, Marc, Carmel, Shaun and Jennifer, Kevin, Scott, Brianne, Cassandra, Aaron, Celina; one great-grandson, Owen as well as Diedrich's sister, Helen Toews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Tina (nee Thiessen) (2005); one son-in-law, Mark Wayborn; his parents, Isaac and Helena (nee Peters); three sisters and six brothers. Viewing will be at Wiebe Funeral Home 121 8th St. Winkler on Tuesday (today) from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Winkler EMM Church, 600 Southview Dr. Interment to follow at Winkler Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Dr. Allen and all the staff at BTHC for the excellent care dad received.
