ALLAN CLARKE Peacefully on May 18,2007 at the Selkirk General Hospital, Allan Clarke, aged 84 years, of East Lower Garry, MB. Allan is survived by his wife of 68 years, Kathleen Clarke; sister Eileen Freeman; brother Charles; grandsons, Allan and John McIntosh, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Margaret Clarke; brothers, Stanford and Albert; sisters, Catherine, Phyllis and Pearl, a daughter in infancy and a daughter Muriel. Allan was born in Selkirk on August 22, 1922. He began his working career at the age of 13 when he left home for Vermillion Bay, ON. to work in a pulp and paper mill cutting wood. Allan married Kathleen Mowat, the love of his life, on January 25, 1939 and began raising his family in the East Lower Fort Garry area. He volunteered for active service in Europe during the Second World War. He served with the Canadian Fourth Armoured Division in France and the Netherlands. He returned home after the war and worked for various companies in the Selkirk area. Allan retired from the restoration department at Lower Fort Garry in 1980, where he had worked as a carpenter and stone mason for the last 15 years. Allan made many friends while employed with Parks Canada, friends who he shared a lot of time with during his retirement years. Allan spent his retirement doing the things he loved and which gave him much joy; gardening, fishing, volunteering at his church and spending time with the family and friends which he loved and cared for. Allan was big in stature with an even bigger heart. He was a quite man , however when he had something to say, it was nearly impossible not to listen. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Selkirk General Hospital for all their help these past two weeks. Prayers will be said on Tuesday (tonight) at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral service will be held on Wed. May 23 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk with Rev. Marvin Simmons officiating. Interment will follow in the Little Britain United Churchyard. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Allan's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg R3E 0V9. We love you grandpa and you will be in our hearts forever. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
