SHIRLEY EILEEN WILLIAMSON 1922 -2007 Peacefully on May 12, 2007, Shirley Eileen Williamson passed away at Misericordia Place Personal Care Home. She was predeceased by her loving husband Jim Williamson in 1997 and her parents, Volney and Florence Thomas. Shirley is survived by her son Bob of Vernon, BC, grandchildren, Leigh and Jill Williamson and Tricia Cox (Jason), great-granddaughter Gracie Cox and daughter-in-law Gail Williamson; by her daughter Glennis Abra, son-in-law Doug and grandchildren, Katherine, Allison and Matthew Abra; by her son Murray Williamson of Vancouver, daughter-in-law Donna and grandchildren, Scott and Jenna. She is also survived by her sister Erla Reynolds (John) of St. Petersburg, Florida and five nieces and nephews. Shirley was born in Winnipeg on June 3, 1922 and she grew up in the St. Vital. She went to Norberry School and St. Joseph's Academy in St. Adolphe, MB and completed her education at United College. Shirley and Jim were married in 1942. During the Second World War, Jim served with the Royal Canadian Air Force, Western Air Command and he and Shirley were stationed in various communities in British Columbia, which was a highlight of their life together. Upon moving back to Winnipeg, Shirley was very active in her community. She was a lifelong member of St. Vital United Church where she was a C.G.I.T. leader and an active member of U.C.W., Princess Anne Unit. She was a lifetime member of Jubilee Chapter, No. 27, Order of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron in 1971. In the early 1970s, Shirley returned to work and had 15 rewarding years at St. Boniface School of Nursing where she made many friends and developed new interests. Everyone who knew Shirley will remember her loving kindness to family and friends. Over the years she opened her home to many people who needed support and care. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family will always cherish her memory. Her grandchildren will remember in particular her Teddy Bear room where they spent many happy sleepovers. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Road with a reception to follow at the church. Interment will be in St. Vital Cemetery. The family wishes to express its sincere thanks to the staff at Misericordia Place for its compassionate care of Shirley.
