MINNIE MADELEINE MORRISON (nee MANKO) On May 18, 2007, mom fell asleep to wake up at the gates of Heaven. Mom lived a very strong faithful life and looked forward to the day she would be home with the Lord. Mom was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 1972, and by her parents Caroline and Nicholas Manko, her sister Olga and brother-in-law Bill Yarmick, niece Susan Roskevich and brother Peter and sister-in-law Barbara. She leaves to cherish her memory, sons Norman of White Rock, Ronald and Julie of Inuvik and daughter Madeleine of Winnipeg. Mom also leaves nine grandchildren, Nancy and John, Kevin and Pasa, Ross and Tamara, Isacc and Samantha, Norman Jr., Christine, Melanie, Natalie, and Brielle, and her great-grand-daughter Brooke, also, her special boys Jeremy, Trent and Liam. There are also, many, many in-laws, nieces and nephews in Ontario and Alberta with apologies that I cannot name them all. Mom worked most of her life except the time she took off to raise her children. She worked in the CP Telegraph office, and then Woolworths for many years before she moved over to head the payroll department for Woolco. She then took a temporary position for the Manitoba Hospital Organization and stayed on for approximately 20 years until she retired. Retirement didn't slow mom down. She immediately went to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Childrens' Hospital Book Mart where she volunteered her time. But, that was not enough. She made an appointment to the CNIB to interview for a volunteer position of reading books to be put on tape. While waiting for her interview it was noticed that mom was knitting. She was asked if she would volunteer for their knitting instead and mom had a new career, teaching the blind how to knit. From as far back as we can remember, mom was a member of St. Gerard Parish when services were held in one of the classrooms of the school. She was a member of the CWL and enjoyed participating in all the parish activities, especially the Fun Fiesta. I would like to personally thank everyone at the Holy Family Nursing Home, St. John's ward, for the wonderful care and love that they gave mom. Very special thanks and love to Diana and Biljana who were there for me and gave me encouragement and strength whenever they saw I needed it. They will be in my heart forever. Also, thanks to John and Tracy who befriended me and mom to just hold hands and share cheesecake. Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 24 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Gerard Parish, on Foster at Talbot, with Fr. Pierre officiating. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if you so desire, donations in mom's name will be gratefully accepted at St. Gerard Parish, 40 Foster St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1V7 or Holy Family Nursing Home, 165 Aberdeen Ave, Winnipeg, MB R2W 1T9.
