BRANDY RAQUEL CONTOIS January 26, 1977 On May 17, 2007, our beloved daughter passed away after a lengthy and valiant battle against cancer. She was a beautiful, vibrant young woman with a big heart and strong spirit. She was the first child, first daughter, first grandchild, first great-grandchild. She was truly a gift from God and greatly loved. Our grief is inconsolable but there is solace and comfort knowing she's with other loved ones within God's family. She leaves to cherish her memory her common-law spouse Ronnie Flett; and beloved son Dreyson Flett (10); father-in-law Samuel Flett; and sisters-in-law, Marcella (Daniel) and nieces, Holly (14) and Angel (7); Pauline (Patrick) and children, Grace (6), Louis (4), Patrick Jr. (1½) and Silas (2 mo.); and many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her mother-in-law Linda Flett. On her maternal side (Contois), she leaves behind her mother Phyllis and stepfather Roy Beardy; siblings, Wayne (20), Meka (16), Jordan (15), Raina (11); sister Shannon (Jimmy); nieces, Alexi (13), Serenity (11), Mercedes (10) and Sienna (8); her uncles, Robert (Mabel), Barry (Ellen Jean), Gerald (Loretta); and aunties, Loretta, Joni (Frank) and Audrey (Morris); and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-aunts/uncles and other extended family. On her paternal side (Simard), she leaves behind her stepmother Charmaine Simard; siblings, Charmaine Jr. (19) (Eric Redhead); and nephew Sage (19 mo.); brothers, David (17) and Daniel (4); sisters, Raquel (10), Desni (8); and her brother Jesse Simard (23); her uncles, Willard (Edith), Morley (Dorothy), Victor (Sandra) and Alvin; and aunties, Linda, Connie, Joanne (Wayne), Karen (Edward), Ann (Gary), Norma and Georgina; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and great-aunts/uncles and other extended family. She was predeceased by her father Peter Frank Simard (date of birth: May 17, 1959, and date of death: November 7, 2006); and grandparents Edward and Harriet Simard and Christopher and Georgina Contois and other extended family members. Brandy, in her short life, accomplished a lot. She was a doting mother and a caregiver and role model to all her siblings. Her father-in-law called her Warrior Woman in the Cree language. That name epitomized all that she was. She fought hard for what she believed in and didn't give up on herself or others. She was in the Business Administration program at UCN in Thompson and excelled in her studies. She enjoyed her stint with Northern Aboriginal Affairs as a spring/summer student placement. Her goal was a business career and we know she would have achieved it. In closing, we acknowledge her special friends: Liz Young, Rita Chapman, Connie Ouskan, Paula Chubb, Amy Anaka and Joan Harper, Aunty Karen Bruneau (her private nurse) and Betty, Kathleen and Jason at Thompson General Hospital and the others who took care of her; also, all our extended family who supported and cradled her during her last days. God bless you all. A viewing was held in Thompson and prayer service in York Landing on May 19, 2007. Wake services are being held in Hollow Water First Nation, Wanipigow, MB, from May 20 to May 22, 2007, at the Community Hall. Funeral service will be at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church on May 23, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. Father Gerry Sembrano officiating. Cremation to follow. Funeral services entrusted to: Boardman/Northland Funeral Services 28 Nelson Road Thompson, MB R8N 0B4 Tel: 778-7982; Fax: 677-9859 Funeral Director: James Boardman A heartfelt thank-you to all our loved ones who helped us through this difficult time, and to York Factory First Nation Council and community members and to Hollow Water First Nation Council and community members. Ekosi / Meegwetch!
