EVELYN LOUISA MCGARROL Peacefully on May 22, 2007, Evelyn passed away at the age of 104. She is survived by her sister Zena Carpenter of Winnipeg; her sister Ruth McWilliam of Brea, California; and her brother and sister-in-law Roy and Mildred McGarrol of Vancouver, BC. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews in Winnipeg, Vancouver and California. She was predeceased by her sisters, Gladys and Elizabeth, and parents, William and Elizabeth. Born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland on November 5, 1902 Eve immigrated to Canada in 1913 and made her home in Winnipeg at the age of ten. Evelyn retired in 1967 after 37 great years of employment at the Central Tuberculosis Clinic, where she worked as secretary to Dr. Donald Scott head of the clinic. After retirement, Evelyn much enjoyed the time she spent travelling through Canada, the United States and Europe, with her sister Gladys. She took great joy in visiting her sisters in Vancouver and California and had a real love of life. In 1987 Evelyn moved in to the Westhaven, where she resided for 19 years. Evelyn made many good friends at the Westhaven and was well known for her sharp card playing skills. She was a committed member of her Bridge Club with the 'young folks', who were roughly 20 years her junior. Thank you to all of the staff at Convalescent Home for taking great care of Evelyn over the past year. Evelyn will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 25 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Evelyn's memory may be made to the Arthritis Society, 105-386 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3RC or CancerCare Manitoba, ON1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or to a charity of your choice.
