CHARLES (CHARLIE) JOSEPH FRANCIS MCCARTHY November 3, 1924 - May 18, 2007 Peacefully, and surrounded by his family, Charlie passed away at the Deer Lodge Centre on Friday, May 18, 2007. Charlie is survived by his beloved wife Rhea (Delavau) and by his children, Anne Courage (Robert Gillespie), grandchildren, Drew and Marnie, his son Jim McCarthy (Darlene Magas) grandchildren, Ryan, Meaghan, Bohdan and his son Dennis (Heidi) McCarthy, grandchildren, Katie, Joshua, Patrick. He will be remembered by his sisters, Gwen (Earl) Griffin and Eileen (Jim) Griffin, Peggy McCarthy (Al) and Rory McCarthy and by Rhea's family, Laurence (Darlene) and Allan (Jennifer), Randy (Elaine) and Jeff (Sandra) and their children, Christopher, Nicholas and Emily, Carly and Laura, Derek and Riley, as well as his numerous nieces and nephews. Charlie was predeceased by his daughter Pattsi, wife Dorothy and his brother William. Born in England, Charlie moved with his family as a young child to Canada, settling in the area of Sprague, Manitoba until, at the age of 16, he hopped a train to join the armed forces. He was very proud to be a veteran of the Second World War and was a dedicated life member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Charlie will best be remembered for his keen wit, sense of humour, his appreciation of the outdoors, his love of country music and living his life his way. A military service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2007 at the Deer Lodge Centre Chapel, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. A special thanks to staff on 4E at Deer Lodge Centre for their wonderful kindness and appreciation for Charlie's individuality during his stay with them.
