SHARON GLADYS GREENING Sharon passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at the Riverview Health Centre. She leaves behind her husband James Gibbs; her mother Martha Greening (Smith) of Lampman, SK; her brothers, Melvyn (Judy) of Midale, SK and Rhodney (Dorie) of Lampman; her sister Donna (Randy) Fleck of Lampman; a niece and eight nephews; and many cousins, aunts, uncles, great-nephews and great-nieces. Sharon was predeceased by her father Edward Greening in 1994. Sharon was born January 24, 1944 in Lampman and came to Winnipeg to pursue her education. She earned a certificate in Education, followed by degrees from the University of Manitoba in Arts and Education. Sharon taught for 40 years, beginning at Success College, and continuing at Rivers and Vincent Massey (Winnipeg) Collegiates. For over 30 of those years she taught at River East and Kildonan East Collegiates. There she taught typing, business law and other commercial courses, English, French and computers. She was a natural teacher who picked up subjects quickly. She expected high standards from her students and got the best out of them. Sharon was interested in world cultures and made over 90 trips throughout Europe, in the Middle East, in North and East Africa, in South and Central America and the Caribbean and in Asia. She was vibrant and outgoing and readily attracted confidences from friends and strangers alike. Sharon was an avid reader, and also passionate about theatre and over many years volunteered regularly at MTC and the Warehouse, Prairie Theatre Exchange, Shakespeare in the Ruins, and the Winnipeg Fringe Festival. Sharon was also an enthusiastic member of the University Women's Club. Our family would like to express a sincere thank you to all of Sharon's health care providers, including especially the doctors and staff of CancerCare Manitoba and of Misericordia Urgent Care and everyone at the Home Care program. A viewing will be held on Friday, May 25 between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. A celebration of Sharon's life will be held on Saturday, May 26 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Margaret's Anglican Church, 160 Ethelbert at Westminster. Pallbearers will be Scott Greening, Reg Greening, Jason Fleck, Jarrod Fleck, Jamie Fleck and Jordan Fleck. Interment will take place at a later date in Elm Lawn Cemetery, Lampman, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sharon's memory to the Winnipeg Foundation or the CancerCare Manitoba would be appreciated by the family. We shall not look upon her like again.
