GORDON R. TRAVIS On Sunday, May 20, 2007, Gordon R. Travis, late of Port Coquitlam, BC, in his 71st year, died at Eagle Ridge Hospital. Mr. Travis was born and educated in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was predeceased by his parents Janet Travis (nee Baraniecki) and Michael Travis; also by his brother Donald; and his sister Donna Robinson. Mr. Travis had a long and varied career in the financial world, in the oil and gas business and in the mining industry. He began his career in Toronto as a bond trader. He later moved back to Winnipeg and worked for James Richardson Sons. In 1969 he subsequently moved to Calgary where he was involved with several oil and gas companies and finally with Dynamic Mining Engineering. He semi-retired in 1980 but pursued many other endeavors until his death. He is survived by his wife Sandra (nee Cherry); his son Gordon Jr. of Port Coquitlam, BC; his daughter Allison Smith (Steven) of Puyallup, WA. He also leaves his grandson Gordon A. Travis of Nelson, BC; and two granddaughters, Stephanie and Danielle Smith of Puyallup, WA; and the mother of his children, Arlene Patera (James) of Puyallup, WA. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. in First Memorial Burkeview Chapel, 1340 Dominion Ave., Port Coquitlam, BC. Interment will be at a later date to be announced in Brookside Cemetery, Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Gordon R. Travis.
